Former Channel 8 Newsman Dean Close Dies

Dean passed away on October 7th at the age of 81 from a stroke.

Dean started his career in broadcasting in Pennsylvania and then worked at radio stations in Hornell, Buffalo, and eventually ended up in Rochester.

At WROC he worked both in radio and also television anchoring the news.

For those of us who knew and worked with Dean he shall be missed.

Dean was a talented guy, a class act. Many people will probably remember him best from his years at WKBW Radio, but he also distinguished himself as a reporter and anchor at WROC-TV and later as news director at WSAY radio during the years 1981-83 when it gave WHAM a run for its money. He later was news director at several other radio stations in Rochester before his retirement.

Broadcasting misses men of his caliber.
