FORMER CITADEL STATIONS HAVE NOW BEEN "CUMULIZED"

It has been a little over a year since Citadel was purchased by Cumulus. The change in music wasn't that noticable at first, but in recent months their playlists are becoming increasingly conversative. Citadel stations were among some of the more unique stations in the country and were not afraid to take chances with their adds. There was a time when it was quite common for Citadel stations (KKOB, KLAL, WPRO, WSSX, KHOP come to mind) to put songs in medium to power rotations that weren't top 30 on the CHR/Pop chart. Now these stations won't even touch pop/rock titles such as the current Neon Trees and Grouplove tracks because Jan Jeffries says so.

I could easily see "Everybody Talks", "Tongue Tied" or "I Won't Give Up" being played 30+ times a week on at least some of these stations if they were still owned by Citadel.

I wonder if AT 40 on those stations will be next to go. I wish Cumulus would let stations air AT 40 again since they are no longer airing Billy Bush's countdown show.

So far KKWD in OKC hasnt been touch yet Thank God

Unfortunately you spoke too soon. Starting around September they went from a great sounding station to playing mostly stuff from 2-3 years ago with a few currents sprinkled in. They used to add new music as soon as it dropped but now it has to be in the Top 10 on the rhythmic chart before they add it, and then they play it out long after other stations have forgotten about it.

It doesn't make sense why Cumulus would not allow the Citadel stations to continue operating the way they always have.
