Chris Fiorillo who was know to listeners of Blaze 990 as DJ Fury is now the owner of Quiet Sounds Music Store on Main Street in Southington. Full story from the Southignton Citizen Newspaper: http://thesouthingtoncitizen.com/articles/2005/06/17/local_news/news08.txt. The only thing wrong in the article is the date. It says he worked at Blaze 990 in 1998 and in 1998 WNTY was a "daytime only" Adult Contemporary formatted radio station. (Daytime only is in quotes because they actually would sign on at 6AM and sign off at 7:30PM. 24 Hour Operation of the station did not begin until mid-1999 when ADD Radio bought the station). WNTY was Blaze from October 2000 until December 2001. 'Quiet Sounds' is located about 1 mile up the road from the 990 building and they advertise on the current version of the station which is Spanish formatted SuperMax.
______________

I might be mistaken, but the info I have is that WNTY began the Night Time signal in the mid 80's. They've had the two towers for at least that long.

And Chris wouldn't have began DJing until October 2000. That's when Blaze 990 was concieved, several months after El Principe was locked out.

Charlie,
WNTY may have had the ability (I call ability FCC Permission) to broadcast 24/7 in the late 1980s, I don't know, but they didn't. My friend who's the afternoon news guy at WATR worked at WNTY in the early 1990s and among his other duties he board-opped the Whaler's Games and one of his jobs was to sign the station off as soon as the game ended.

Plus I already told you that I listned to WNTY on and off since 1993 and I remember them signing off at 730PM. I remember they used to play an annoucement "AM 990 WNTY Now Concludes its Broadcast Day". In 1998 WNTY was the flagship station of the New Britain RockCats AA Baseball Team and as soon as the game ended they would play that announcement. Sometimes it was at a weird time like 9:47PM.

And until 990 went Spanish again last Spring I never believed in the old saying "History Repeats Itself".
______________

That very may well be. After all it is only 86 watts.

Ha ... this is amazing. I've often wondered what to do with all these old CD's ...
