Former employee sues B94, seeks on-air job

Todd, I'm no lawyer, but when I heard this I couldn't believe it.

Actually, I could believe it. I have some pretty strong feelings on the subject, in fact, but for the sake of manners and good taste I'll merely say I feel Bonesso comes off extremely petty.

If I look at the former local talent on "The Zone," all except the McIntire and Bonesso have been picked up either in this market or Los Angeles (as was the case with Dave Damechek).

Yet The Zone died the fastest death in radio history (or damn well near it).

Now, if all the other talent on said radio bust were picked up by other stations, and Bonesso and McIntire were not, then don't you think an arguement can be made that Bonesso and McIntire were pretty darned bad and an extremely large reason as to why the station was not successful?

The feedback that show got was simply horrendous. Rob Pratte's feedback literally comes off well in comparison- and Pratte is at least enough of a professional to realize he shouldn't attack his audience, which Bonesso and McIntire did regularly.

I remember when the show debuted and there was this video online Bonesso did of one of her comedy bits. It was something about going supermarket shopping with her mother during Steelers games- and it just wasn't funny. It was long, drawn out, didn't have a punchline, didn't have much teeth, and didn't make sense- just not a good bit.

And that was supposed to be her best work.

Most radio announcers who drive a station to a format change don't have much leyway when they are canned. This one was actually kept on to push buttons so she wouldn't starve, and she's rather ungrateful about it.

The arguement that "I was fired because I wasn't feminine enough" seems to be the classic arguement of crying discrimination when none exists.

Am I to believe that every female employee of CBS Radio and KDKA is dressed in skirts and high heels at all times?

If she wants to be in this business bad enough, she needs to go to the 'farm clubs' and learn the game before she competes in Major League Baseball. The people who start at the top and actually stay there are the exception, not the norm. And from what I'm reading here, I don't see anything to merit her litigation.

From my own personal experience, those who file frivolous lawsuits like these usually did so in knee-jerk fashion, or simply put, "speak when you're angry and you'll make the best speech you'll come to regret". They didn't stop to think of any possible career ramifications, or they did so because they wanted to gamble for a quick cash settlement to settle. Fortunately, broadcasters have smartened up in recent years to deal with these.

Was this the female who read the text messages on the air when the station was jockless after the switch back to B94?

Yes. She was going by the name "Tina the Txt Girl" and she was the first voice of the new B94.

I thought for sure she was going to the female member of the morning show, but they picked Melanie instead.

Maybe management only used her in the context of transition from the Zone to the B. They probably never had her in mind for any job at the New B because people would associate her with the McIntyre show and the short-lived Zone.

IF they used that excuse of her not being girly enough to her face, that stupid. But, let's face it, Gab is more Gabe than Gab. And, Gab probably knows that and filed suit. She's using her sexuality, and that's discrimination, too. It's like crying wolf.

To file a sexual discrimination suit, blatant discrimination should've been present in the workforce. Good luck to her in presenting that action.

Just because she was on the Zone, and did the Tina the Textgirl thing doesn't guarantee her a job. She's got to earn her radio personality stripes.

Its 99% likely this is a garbage lawsuit that goes nowhere and does nothing but waste the court's time.

But in her defense I can hear Keith saying something completely stupid like that. Serve them both right if she loses the case but CBS shows him the door over this "last straw"

Dave- I know very little about B-94.

But I understand Melanie had been on the station for years prior to the K-Rock format switch.

Since they were trying to go back to B-94, wouldn't it make sense to rehire a proven talent and familiar name instead of continue with Gab?

That's not a knock on Gab. It's just biz-ness.

I know very little about Gab and never listened to 93.7 The Zone. But judging from the comments about her on these boards, I'm glad Melanie was picked over her.

so was she wanting melanies position or the midday opening or something else? because I know a lot of talented jocks who have paid some dues and tried for spots on that station but didn't get them. that's just how the business works. the line up they chose is quality and there's no reason for management to regret any decisions they made on talent.

as far as melanie, choosing anyone other than her for that spot is ridiculous. She's a B94 brand. period.
