There's no way of telling from that station's website - but I'd guess that probably is the same Jack Friday. Most likely, he doesn't work in Juneau, Alaska (which is a beautiful small city, BTW), but voice-tracks from his home in Northern California. Jack used to post occasionally on this board, and I believe he said he retired to the Northern California coast, somewhere. Though there's certainly a chance he relocated to Juneau. Given it's location half-way down that little "tail" that hangs south from the Alaska mainland, Juneau probably isn't much colder than San Francisco on a foggy night...and probably warmer than SF in the summer.

In the Bay Area, other than KFRC, Jack Friday also worked at K-101, KYUU, KOIT, KLOK-FM, and KBLX. And I'm probably forgetting some...

No, the KFRC etc. Jack Friday has been living in Alaska and working at a small station there for about a year after doing the same thing for a while in Bend, Oregon. I worked with Jack at KFRC in the early 70s and we keep up with each other on Facebook...next up for Jack? A move to the Austin, TX area and hoping to land a weekend gig for the heck of it there. Jack is enjoying his whimsical journey at this point in life without really carrying about money & material things. He's just doing HIS thing.

That's nice to hear. Thanks.

What a trip. I remember Jack while growing up in the Bay Area. I met him once on a tour of the station when I was in school.

Glad to see he his enjoying life in Alaska. I nearly moved there as a GM back in the early 80's. Never made the leap though.

That's great he can still do radio and not worry about money or where the next meal will be coming from it sounds like. That's what radio is today

Uh....a little late...today was his last day. Think he may land in Austin, TX next but he's packed and leaving Alaska.

BRRRR......Juneau....it ain't no SF, weatherwise.

I took an Alaska cruise last summer...we stopped in Juneau for a whale watching excursion...they told us that Juneau gets over 150 inches of snow in tne winter. We had one of the rare weeks when it didn't rain most of the time in the summer.

BTW there are no roads in and out of Juneau...boat and plane is the only way in and out.

The folks who do all the tourist services are all gone by late september.

The permanent population is quite small in the coastal towns.

I'm Doing Fine

Hi…Jack Friday here…and yes, it's true, I spent a year having a great time in Alaska. Still friends with the folks who own the stations. It was a wonderful experience that I'd encourage anyone to do. Alaska is an amazing place. I'm living in Texas now between Austin and San Antonio. Bought a small ranch here and really like being in the Lone Star State. I considered moving back to California but decided to go for a more rural lifestyle for now. I'm officially retired and other than some audio I cut now and then here at home for imagining, I have no intention of returning to an on air position either full or part time. Life is good right now. Thanks to all for asking about me. I appreciate being remembered.

You're hard to forget, Jack. And I have the good fortune now of working with someone who worked with you in the 80s and I'm regaled with stories to go along with the memories I have of you on the air in the 70s.

Not to forget Jack's time at KBLX in the 90s (IIRC), and at the infamous 103.7 "Yes/No Radio KLOK-FM" in the 80s.
