By the way, his wife has had Lee's site updated with airchecks and a complete history of his posts from April 2010. Included are WGBS and WIND airchecks playing music, and his last KSFO show.

Interesting. I'd never heard Lee Rodgers as a DJ before. I think for the first I've just realized what a very strange legacy it is to have been a DJ and to be remembered for meat commercials, weather forecasts, pudding recipes, and barely funny intros to Bobby Vinton songs. I guess it just goes to show how marginal the fame of a DJ really is.

Yes, but perhaps with a few exceptions. I talk to people who are not radio-nerds who fondly remember the MOR DJs like Frank Dill, and Carter B. Smith. And of course, the legendary DJs like Gary Owens, but he did a lot of voice-over work, game-show hosting, and Laugh-In, of course.

In the mid 60s - Dick Biondi made a huge splash in LA, though he was only on KRLA for a year or less between Chicago gigs. People were still talking about him years later.

Dick Biondi was on KRLA for about two and a half years total. He was there about 4 months in 1963 after he left Chicago the first time.
Then he came back to KRLA in June of 65 and finally left in August of 67.

Dr. Richard Lederer was Lee's English expert guest. He's written a lot of very good books on grammar and language.

Also, Lee was born in 1935 and was 77 when he died. He is my husband so I DO know the correct information.

Susan, it's good to see you stop in. We've exchanged a few private emails. I'm David, who donated in Lee's honor to the animal charity.

And isn't Lee the voice of WWV?

I don't recall WWV ever saying that the male voice belonged to Lee Rodgers. I remember that they used to give out the names of the folks who did WWV and WWVH, and I certainly would have remembered had it been Lee. Also, the voice never sounded like Lee to me anyway.

Here's a WWV spoof, "The Tick" using what sounds like the regular WWV announcer. It certainly does not sound like Lee Rodgers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CpsPgXyIm8

From wikipedia

The 20 and 25 MHz broadcasts were discontinued in 1977, but the 20 MHz broadcast was reinstated the next year.[1] The voice used on WWV was that of Don Elliott Heald until August 13, 1991, when equipment changes required rerecording the announcer's voice. The one used at that time was that of John Doyle, but was soon switched to the voice of KSFO morning host Lee Rodgers
