Former Kiss 96 Morning Man Lands a TKO

Jim Zippo, morning man for Nashville's short-lived and long-lamented Kiss 96, lands a TKO slot doing mornings on the network's Classic Top 40 format. With Eric Chase for afternoons, John "Records" Landecker for evenings, and now Zippo in the morning, that's a bird-fed format I'd welcome here. Hope this news piques some interest over on Division Street.

The last real broadcaster on Division Street was a Top 40 station called 92-Q. Everything else, if there is anything,
would fall on deaf ears...management and listeners alike, Jetfli. ;D

The last broadcaster I recall on Division Street was Y-107. And I've "only" lived here since 1992, so I have no recollection of a Kiss 96. I'm guessing that this is/was the Oldies 96.3/Jack frequency now.

This is a great line up! Zippo is a great morning man...and Landecker for afternoons, too? Wow. It will be successful. Division St. would be nuts to pass it up.

I remember the old Kiss 96 (WZKS) -- a girl I knew in grade school loved that station and even recorded the final Kiss 96 song before they flipped formats. Sadly, that tape is long gone.

Kiss 96 had a billboard campaign with giant lips with glitter on them. It was attention-grabbing, and it's notable that I remember the campaign 20+ years later.

Does anyone here have any old Kiss 96 airchecks?

One of those billboards was right across the street from Rivergate Mall at the other side of the street where Calhouns is today. I can't remember what building it was over but I remember the billboard facing you when you came in from Hendersonville.

wasn't 96 licensed to mufreesboro?? and in 1980 or so called 96KOS..a play on the word chaos ? ???

still is: 96-KOS did stand for 'chaos' for a short time...before it was WKOS (and still had the WMTS-FM calls)
it was brifely called "M-96". Bear Bradley was the PD...they became "M-96" when they went to 100kw on the
Gladeville tower, and targeted Nashville as 96-KOS....CHR...later Drake-Chenault gold/AC on reel.
Morphed to WZKS 96-Kiss...then "Magic 96" with Phil Valentine puking mornings...WRMX (awful w-MIX)...
then oldies 96...eventually changing calls to WMAK...and in 2005 the switch to WCJK "Jack".

somewhere I have the artwork for the WMTS AM-FM logo..."double barrel radio"...complete with
a shotgun as logo for 810AM/96FM in Murfreesboro.

again...even with tower off 24 NW of Nashville...and studios off 440/Nolensville Rd...licensed to Murfreesboro.
than again...107.5 is licensed to Lebanon, 104.5 is Gallatin, 101.1 is Russelville, 99.7 is (for now) Manchester...
definately not a unique situation.
In fact, the studios for the Russelvile, KY and Lebanon, TN stations are only about 50 feet apart!

Bear Bradley was the PD Hadn't thought of "bear with the hair" in several years..but remembered his wife passed away about three years ago, she was from gallatin and worked at WHIN while i was there in the mid 70's..maiden name was patty brockett..died of brain cancer i believe..so young..very sad..last i heard the bear was up north i think..thought i rememebred the KOS connection..not to be confused with maxwell smart and the evil KOS he battled on GET SMART..but perhaps you youngsters don't go that far back.. :D

CR--- see Valentime is the cause of all bad radio in Nashville! And you are like a fresh gust of warm
spring wind...we all follow your lead. I'd love to see the old MTS stickers. I can't remember if there
were any K-OS stickers, but yes there were many Kiss ones out there in the day.
