Former KLTV and KTRE owner passes.

Frank Melton, who is known to East Texans as owner of the former TV3, Inc. and one-third of MRS Ventures died Wednesday at the age of 60.

You can find out about him on both sites at www.kltv.com, ktre.com or www.wlbt.com.

Frank had his issues and personal demons, but overall, he was a good owner. I always said despite the money (or lack there of), KLTV was the best TV station I have ever worked for. It's a damn shame they didn't pay anything and they were located in Tyler, or I would have worked for them forever. Frank would stop by about once a month or so and he was always friendly and he really cared about the community aspect of the TV station. It sounds like he had a rough few years in the last years of his life. I hope now that he is at peace. My thoughts are with his family and my former KLTV family.

I, too, thought the world of Frank. I had the chance to work for him both at KTRE and at KLTV.

I'll always remember one thing. When I'd work a weekend shift in master control, if I left the room to go to the restroom, sometimes I'd come back and recognize the distinct smell of "Polo" in the control room. Frank had walked through. :)
