Former KPRI/KGB DJ Stephen Capen RIP

Stephen Capen has passed away due to lung cancer.
A truly witty, and talented personality, Capen
worked at such stations as WDRC, KPRI, KGB, KMEL,
KSFX, KSAN and others. I recall as a kid, listening
to the morning show he hosted along with the Cruiser
(now bland old Larry Himmel) at KPRI, he later went
to KGB to work for Ron Jacobs. I heard the always
hilarious Capen often while he did mornings at KSAN.
One hour of Capen was frankly more interesting and
funny than 95 percent of what you have today. Rest
in peace, buddy.

I'm always saddened to hear of a dj from that era passing away.
Are there any airchecks of Capen available?

Gosh...lung cancer...I wonder how that happened.

Well genuis...before you presume, why don't you
ask Christopher Reeve's widow, or Andy Kaufman's
family. Not smoking is smart, but thousands of
non-smokers are diagnosed with lung cancer
every day. Think before you post!

Glad you asked Garrett. Yes: here's a link to a 1980 Stephen Capen
aircheck on KSAN http://www.jive95.com/airchecks.htm Also, he
and Larry Himmel (who used the hilarious name of Baba Cruz back
in those days) were quite a good team at KPRI, back in the Jerry
Lubin, Adrian Bolt, Joe Chandler days from 7th & ash
downtown.
