Norman Kestner, who was an owner of Concord's plucky peashooter, KWUN/1480, from May 1967 until February 1971, died a month ago, according to his obituary, which just appeared in the local papers.
Kestner owned KWUN in partnership with Earl Goldman. Vic Ives, an original part-owner of the station, was their VP and GM. Kestner and Goldman sold out to Adler Communications in 1971.
I know there are quite a few of you that read this board who worked at KWUN during its short but interesting life, but I'm not sure if any of you go back as far as the Kestner era.
An excerpt from the obit:
Norman Kestner -- Former Concord Resident Norman Kestner, former Mayor of Concord, passed away in Santa Cruz, on November 17. He was 86. Mr. Kestner was a Concord resident for almost 30 years. During this time he taught at Mt. Diablo High School and worked at the County Office of Education. Mr. Kestner owned a Concord Radio Station, KWUN, and spent many years as a local Real Estate Broker. Mr. Kestner believed in serving his country, as he did during World War II, as well as his community.
