LOL.. Thanks Steve. I remember when you called me overnight and totally had me fooled that you were Jerry Kristifer.

1979 maybe? Thanks for the good words. But I'm just another mook who does this for a living. E:60 is a great show, they have a top notch production team. By the way I did that episode from France on an Apple laptop. LOL the comment about self promotion. I think many people who do what I do are promotion machines and DO in fact put phony posts up praising themselves. I on the other hand try to stay completely off the radar. I'm not a name or an on air personality. I'm a background person and I'm too busy..................actually working.
Steve is a brilliant radio guy who knows so much about the biz. But we haven't spoken in 20 years!
Jim
Jim, thanks for your reply. I can still do a good Krazy Jerry Kristafer! He's easy to do.
If you ever need someone to do character voices (like Pres. Bush) on your sweepers, may I suggest you use Brian Whtman. I believe Brian is the best in the biz. You can visit his Website or get in touch with him via WABC-AM.
The last time I spoke with you must have been around 1990-91 when you had a gig in Boston. I remember telling me you signed up WOWO (famous radio station for dxers). You made it! I loved to tune in WOWO or WWKB before I would check out the pirates. Also, I remember calling Al Bandiero (former 99X WXLO/NYC jock) at 1520 WWKB, must have been 1979, telling him I was going down to the old Wedgewood Building in Patchogue to drop off a tape and apply for a job. I wasn't ready. At least I got a rejection notice. About ten more audition tapes via the mail...four years later...I got the gig. One bad thing, no union.
After over a year at WBLI, the ratings came out, 7.4 share the best ever in the history of BLI. I walked in and asked PD/Mr. Bill (Terry) for a quarter per hour raise and full-time status. I was doing overnights five days per week, hosting the Saturday Night Partyline 7pm-midnight & the Future Hit Challenge (I hated doing that show). I was putting more hours than all the other jocks, but no full-time status. No health benefits. I still respect Mr. Bill. I think it was the owners.
I always wanted to be on the radio since I was five. Using the family reel to reel recorder and doing my best Bob Murphy (the late Mets broadcaster) play-by-play. When I was seven, my older brother was working at WGBB. One day he shows me his Mets & Yankees press card. He never went to a game. I told him he was crazy. My older brother wasn't into sports. One day I was reading The Radio Guide (it came out in the late '70s, it was like the TV Guide except it was for NYC Metro area radio, now it's out of business), they had a blurb about what a NYC jock makes. It was something like 52K or 55K. This is 1978 money. Not bad. Only if I listened to my dad. He told me to use BLI as a stepping stone. Don't get hung up on the money. Tell that to my girlfriend at the time.
A few years ago I got very sick. Alpha-One runs in my dads & moms family. Just my luck. Back in June of 2007, this crazy doctor wanted me to go home and die in five days. I spoke it over with my lady friend (now my wife). We both agreed this doc is a moron. I first asked my friend to marry me, she said yes in the hospital room. I checked out after she said yes. Went to see my great Dr. H at NY Columbia. He saved my life 2 times and he did it for the 3rd time. I love him like a family member.
I would love to meet you, Jim.Maybe after I have my operation in 18 months. I'm very proud to work at the same radio station you once worked at. You used BLI as a steppingstone. I would love to see your studio and cut a few sweepers. I want you to tell me if I should try to get in the vo biz. If you say no, I understand.
Sidenote...note sure if I told you this...remember George W. Benson...I think he was at FM99 when you worked there...passed away over a year ago.
