Former WICC PD Gary Peters Passes

Received a call today from a colleague informing me that Gary Peters, formerly a program director and operations manager at Bridgeport's WICC-AM passed away this morning. Gary was credited along with station GM Vince Cremona on turning the station around in the late 1970's.

I was fortunate enough to meet Gary in recent years and he was friendly and personable off that air as well as behind the mic. His distinctive voice will certainly be missed.

Gary returned to WICC in the mid eighties, which is when I had the pleasure of knowing him. He exuded an enthusiasm for radio - and life - you don't find every day.

@gary sapiane: Do you recall what he went by for an on-air name? I've been trying to dig up some airchecks of him and haven't had much luck.

@EJM: Thanks for the link to the Post article. I knew there was going to be a writeup but I didn't know if I missed it or not.

I forgot Gary was a Kool 96.7 back in the day.

I remember him as the afternoon "boss jock" ( pete moss) on the old wnhc/1340...i have some stuff of his on tape...he did a second stint in new haven as gary peters before moving on...sad day

I attended Gary's wake on Sunday. I was touched by the outpouring of stories, emotions and memories that so many of you shared. I remember seeing Gary and Sue at record shows around the state. Jess and Brian did such a memorable tribute to their dad. I wonder how many people actually ever paid attention to the lyrics of "Puff The Magic Dragon"?

RIP, Gary. It was an honor knowing you.

I was unable to go to Gary's wake due to personal commitments but a fellow colleague went. I was happy to hear about the turnout, especially from many of Gary's former co-workers.
