Former WIND host Larry "the Legend" Johnson dies

..."The Legend" was my first taste of radio outside of a Top 40-type structure. I was 9 years old at the time. (Shortly afterwards, I would start catching Arthur Godfrey's last months on the CBS network, and then Paul Harvey.) "Home of The World's biggest phone bill! We call The World, and Heaven, too!" I happened to be up late the night he brought Candid Camera's Allen Funt on, and they actually tried to call Heaven on-air. (I'll never forget the operator asking what the area code for Heaven was.) Met him a couple of times in Green Bay and Milwaukee when he was there. Nice guy. Oh, and on the WWWW Detroit episode of The History of Howard Stern, they used a 1980 clip of Stern and Larry The Legend settling a bet on one of that year's Brewers-Tigers games...

I also enjoyed Larry the "ledge" on WIND. Everything from his calling the world to his constant complaints regarding The Wiffenpoof Song.
Too bad his Chicago radio career didn't last longer.
