I was surprised, like a lot of other people, to hear that Geoff Sindelar passed away Thursday at age 62. Both Mike Snyder and Greg Brinda gave classy mentions and tributes to him on the air today (Brinda was filling in for Reghi, ironically in Geoff's old timeslot...)
Geoff first made his mark on WWWE/1100 as one of the successive hosts of the legendary "Sportsline" back in the late 80s. He was one of the first sports talkers on WKNR/1220 (at the point when it STILL was a satellite oldies/sports hybrid and slowly evolved into all-sports), joining the station in January 1991 and eventually became the lead-in to Indians games right at the height of the teams' 90s renaissance.
After retiring from WKNR following Jacor's buyout of the station in 1998, Geoff did bi-weekly contributions for the Indians Radio Network until 2000 - even co-hosting the hour-long "Saturday Tribetalk" with Kenny Roda, and eventually Casey Coleman, from 1998 to 1999. Geoff also would contribute to Kenny Roda's and Brinda's show on WKNR from time to time.
I not only remember him best as the 5p-7p host on WKNR, but also as host of "Sports 101," a weekly sports collectible show on the old SportsChannel. His "Professor" nickname was very well deserved.
