Former WLW Employee Michaels Being Ousted

Work environment issues aside, the Tribune assets are in significantly better positions today than they were under the old Tribune management before Randy arrived. It was just a horribly-structured deal because of the ESOP at the worst possible time.

If Randy really is out at Tribune I sincerely hope that he returns to the radio business and does something interesting.

What exactly happened that caused McConnell to burn his bridge at WLW?
The writing about Randy Michaels has been on the wall for a couple months now. This news doesn't surprise me in the least. Michaels should take "Pig Virus" with him on the way out the door. I wonder if it will strike them in the rear end on the way out. ;D

Basically, leaving the station for WGN. Whoever runs WGN will have their work cut out for them, and they still will need to bring the demographics down. I'm sure lots of folks are expecting a return to the upper-demographic skewing WGN, Kathy and Judy, etc., but those ad buyers are still not buying 55 plus.

I would say so. Unless Michaels buys 97.7 & 99.5 and give WLW a run for its money.

Even with Michaels as PD, those two awful signals don't stand a chance against WLW.

Maybe Radio One would part with their three stations though. They could use some cash right now and Cincinnati is not really a core market for them.

That's crazy. An opportunity to move to a larger market with a better salary comes along and the management at WLW gets pissed off at McConnell for making a move? Sounds like WLW is burning the bridges here then. McConnell is a good talent and from what I remember had strong ratings during that mid morning show. If the management at WLW had an ounce of common sense, they'd try to bring him back if he winds up out of a job at WGN.

Brad. I sent you an e-mail to the address listed on your radio-info.com account.

It was probably more that Mike was going to work for Randy. Cunningham almost went too. Its not a given that McConnell and the rest of the staff will be gone; that would mean a bankrupt company buying out several contracts and the creditors probably aren't going for that.
I did get your email, thanks for reminding me, I will respond.

Michaels being forced to resign by the Tribune Company for what is termed "frat house behavior" comes as no surprise to me. When he was at WLW, its taste and class slipped below longtime broadcast standards. In fact, it continues to remain low in that department.
