Former WNTY Intern Hits The Big Time

MarcB said:
Me? I went to the intercom at the local Grocery Stores in Southington. ;D

There's probably a larger audience at that grocery store than on that 990 station.

Hey Marc! Its JR from WXCT...I just wanted to clear up something you just said...I noticed you referenced me when you mentioned WNTY/WXCT people who went on to larger stations....I did more then overnight fill ins at WTIC...I did Friday and Sat night news every weekend for 6 years....that, as well as, the fill in during the week when Ed Reynolds was off..as well as, the morning show producer for Ray Dunaway on Saturday mornings..unfortunately I had to leave because of my full time job...but I loved my time on WTIC and I hope to get another radio job eventually!

Good to hear from you. WTIC needs you back big time though. Some times I hear this guy on doing the overnight updates (not Ed) I swear the guy is drunk. Stumbling over the words, slurred speech, etc, etc. I know I'm not perfect, but overtime one should be improveing. This guy is not. Sometimes I've heard Dana Whalen (sic) on the overnights too. Obviously she's good. I just don't think that the News Director should be doing news on the overnight shift. LOL. It's also strange that on Sunday evenings they have Debbie Hanley from WLAD in Danbury on.

WNTY was my first station and from there I went on to Hartford, Boston, & Detroit. I started when Gene Anthony was the PD not a perfect human being by any means but guided me well as did Ed McCarthy. It was a great place to get your feet wet.

Whatever happened to Kathy Foxx, who worked there in the mid/late '80s, I think? She moved on to Kiss and then disappeared. I remember a nice "local girl makes good" story on her running in the Meriden Record-Journal.

Weird - if you Google "Kathy Foxx" and WKSS, you only get a handful of results - the first of which is a link to a page from a copy of Billboard magazine from May 1986, including a blurb about "personalities at WKSS, Hartford, Conn, who participated in the city's Celebrity Waiter's Lunch." She's mentioned along with Paul Murnane.

I did afternoons on WNTY for a short time in late 1974. The Golden 990. Local service at its best. Local newscasts, Mutual news too, got to pick my own oldies and do the sports headlines. I went on to WTXL in [West] Springfield, then afternoon drive at WCCC AM/FM Hartford for three years, then WAAF Worcester in 1979.
