Former WRSM Question

Does anyone know if the former WRSM was related in any way to the other long closed, decaying buildings that surround the site? There is what appears to be the remnants of an old lumber yard, some sort of auto repair shop, and a ransacked residential home... The whole area looks like something you would see in a third world country... calling it "blight" is being far too kind.

(and that's WITHOUT storm damage... there isn't any of that)
