My Father Tommy Roberts Sr former owner of Radio Station WTMR from 1968 to 1986 passed away on August 14th 2024
He called the feature Race of the Day from area Horse Race Tracks on a network of Radio Stations WTMR was the flagship station.
When the station had a MOR Format he hired big names in Philadelphia Radio to do air shifts and in1975 flipped the station format to Religious Format.
Dick Sheeran did a story on him and found it interesting that a former horse race caller now has a Religious Radio Station.
My Father was the best horse race announcer in the country and in 1973 he called all 3 Triple Crown Races that Secretariat won on
over 800 Mutual Radio Network Stations. On Friday evening, November 16, 2012, My Father Tommy Roberts Sr was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame.
This is a true story I saved the day at WTMR my Father woke me from a sound sleep and said that the engineer that was to sign the station on the air called him and was sick my Father said Tommy do you know how to get us on the air I was out of bed in seconds. I knew how to do this and I save WTMR $10,000 that day which i got paid $10.00 for.
