Former Z107 Morning show host Matt Carter

I just read in Feder's column that Matt Carter left Z107 to take a job with Shadow traffic, and now he's now on middays on WRXQ down in Joliet. Unless he moved down there, I don't think it made sense for him to take a job out in the Joliet area for pay that might not be much more than what he might have made with Radio One Communications of Valparaiso. Unless he still works at Shadow Traffic or has other duties with Nextmedia that Feder isn't mentioning, then I think the move to Nextmedia was a dumb move, especially if he's still living in Valparaiso.

Feder said he's the program director.

I was half asleep when I typed this up after 11am. I didn't see all of it when I typed it up. I do wish Matt Carter the best at his new job. I would only hope he isn't still living in Valparaiso and making the commute to Crest Hill.

Matt is a great guy and a sharp programmer. I KNOW he will do well and is a great addition to the NM stable!

Their gain is Metro/Shadow and Z107's loss!

While he worked for Radio One Communications, he e-mailed me asking if I ever was in radio, and if I might be interested in working in radio. I did mention that I never worked in radio, and if it might have been for an intership, I was going to take a pass simply because I am still working on moving out of the Chicago/NW Indiana metropolitan area. I was surprised he gave me his e-mail address, and I'm not talking about his then work e-mail with Radio One Communications. No I won't give it out to anyone. I'm sure he's a nice guy to most people, though I never met him personally. The only local celebrity I have met is Steven Haas and I won't go into details about him, but he's weird.

Dude...its his life...his commute...why should you care? Why
would you insult him with suggesting that he may have made a
"dumb move"?? Would you like every decision you made in your
life publically scrutinized?

When I originally created the post, I didn't see his additional duties with Nextmedia because I was half asleep when I created the post. As for commute, I understand some people have to travel for their jobs. But in this case, I still stand firm that a commute from Valpo to Crest Hill isn't a smart one should he still in Valparaiso. It might be possible he moved for the job, especially many employers are now setting residency requirements for jobs. I know that one first hand because many jobs I've come across won't allow me to live in Indiana and work for many employers in Illinois. I could find out if I really want to since I have his e-mail address (personal e-mail address). I don't know what Nextmedia pays for Matt's line of work, but I'm sure Chris Tarr knows since he used to work for them. As I stated in the last post after Suburban Radio Guy, I wish Matt the best at his new job.

DUDE! I made the board! :)

And no one ripped me a new one....wow.

For anyone interested....

haven't moved yet....have to sell the house first...commute sucks

still at Shadow on weekends for a while

VERY good opportunity at WRXQ I COULDN'T pass up...I thought I would stay doing traffic but it was too good.

I can imagine the commute being bad, especially from Valpo, not being near an interstate. I've done long commutes, but I live near I-80/94 and all my jobs in Illinois have been near the interstate, so the commute wasn't that bad.

What station(s) is(are) you heard on doing Shadow Traffic, and around what times? I hear Steven Haas during the overnight hours, and usually on weekends when driving in and around Chicago on WBBM.
