Fort Myers: CC Swapping 100.1 & 107.1... Again... WHY?!

"Cat Country" was originally on 107.1. Back in 2002 or whereabouts, 100.1, the old Star turned "Real Radio", simulcasted or "shadowcasted" 107.1 until they moved their smooth jazz from 98.5 moved to the weaker 107.1. (CC since sold off 98.5.) 100.1 has a great signal right in the middle of the dial.

So I read that they're going to pull another switcheroo, putting Cat Country back on 107.1 and Smooth Jazz on 100.1. WHY?! Isn't smooth jazz supposed to be one of these "dying" formats CC no longer believes in? And why park country on the weaker 107.1, which is a bitch to pick up in inner SW Florida? Are they admitting defeat to the mighty Gator?

This move doesn't make sense... then again, most of CC's antics don't make sense... ???

Doesnt CC still run 100.1 out of the Punta Gorda cluster? 92.9 is also country and has a great class C signal. CC seems to compete with itself with numerous country signals on 92.9 100.1 and 106.5.

WCTQ doesn't seem to compete much in the Fort Myers-Naples area; its signal is far too weak. WCTQ is what it is: A Sarasota station. Its signal does very well in most of the Tampa Bay area, particularly in St. Pete and Clearwater. But I don't think 'CTQ can be lumped in with the other Fort Myers-area country stations.

Something else to think about...

Not only did WCKT Cat Country formerly reside on 107.1

But this also marks the return of the smooth jazz format to 100.1

Back around late 1991/early 1992, WEEJ "Coast 100" switched from Rock AC to smooth jazz mainly due to the fact that 102.5 made the exact same change in reverse (smooth jazz "The Wave" to Rock AC "The Point") Keep in mind that 100.1 was a solely a Charlotte County station back then, and 102.5's signal dominates there.

100.1 has had SO MANY formats in the past 20 years. Can anyone name them all?

I smell a Format Switcheroo...

OK, so let me get this straight...

Current Situation
100.1 = North. Cat Country.
107.1 = Bonita. Smoooth Jaaaazz.

Future Situation
100.1 = North. Smoooth Jaaaazz.
107.1 = Bonita. Cat Country.

Wouldn't Smooth Jazz have a much better pool of listeners in the South (Naples, $$$$) rather than up North (Ft. Myers)?? I predict they will blow up Smooth Jazz come with something new.

Thoughts??

CC can't decide what to do with 100.1, known as "The place where formats go to die". Back when 98.5 was sold to the Catholic Pizza Boy, WDRR/WZJZ was specifically moved to 107.1 to take advantage of Collier County being a better market for Smooth Jazz, while the feeling behind moving Cat to 100.1 was to better compete with Gator in the northern zip codes where Gator does well. The fact that Cat Country sucks made no difference, so rather than trying to upgrade the programming or the miserable processing, let's just move back to where we were, on the limited coverage 107.1 frequency. Conversely, WZJZ on 100.1 throws a terrible signal over most of Collier in spite of a recently completed move and upgrade.
I don't expect WZJZ to survive another year, based on the 100.1 track record.
BTW, their best format over the last decade or so was "Warm 100", which they shot in the foot!
