Fort Walton Beach Cluster Is Getting A New Owner

Dan - interesting news. I have not seen any information on this group sale. I am not sure how Apex did, financially, in FWB/Destin. I heard their stations a few times. This should be interesting, as it seems like there are a few "dog" markets that absorb revenue from the profitable markets. I wonder if this is a semi-profitable market these days. Sadly, just too far removed and busy to pay much attention to this, but what is this - fourth owner/group in last 10 years? I cannot imagine the price goes up each year!

How, I finally was able to log-in was a miracle. I hope everyone is ok. Maybe, just maybe I can respond to some new posts on here for a change. Happy Summer, 2016.
Poledo - send updates please. Get CCENGin fired up. :)

Well, Tibbs, back in your day were 4 locally owned small radio stations scattered around Choctawhatchee Bay... Only one of them Surfed to popularity. Qantum bought 92.1 and 98.1 from Hale, 102.1 from Carter and 103.1 from who knows who to create a nice second cluster down in FWB... Qantum upgraded all these station and then they sold the cluster to Apex. Profit.
Apex took their four scattered stations and moved them all to the Hollywood Blvd. towers, upgrading them even more in the process. They launched Highway 98 Country and easily took down Cumulus' Country 105.5 to become the biggest station in town. They launched two solid rockers to flank and take some listeners from Cumulus' 99 Rock. And just for good measure they put CHR on 92.1 to stick it to Cumulus' biggest signal, 96.5. Is there really any more room for this cluster to grow? Maybe, but everything that hasn't already been done will be hella expensive.
Sounds like the right time to sell to me. Take that profit!
It'll be very hard for Community Broadcasters to improve this cluster without buying a fifth full power station (WAAZ). Translators and AMs aren't worth squat in FWB. So I have to wonder what the near future holds?
