Fort Walton Radio Predictions

one more thing...the Smartcaster controls 4 or 5 consumer CD players with "6 pack" CD changers....and plays music in a particular order, plus plays the spots and switches the CBS News on....he has the programming part to do 24/7....just doesn't have a way to LEGALLY control his transmitter in unattended operation....it would have to be completely legal before Jimmy would do it....I can't say for others in the area ;)

I love it when Professor Wooten starts smacking radio youngsters around. I just sit quietly in the back of the class and snicker....

Wow a station still using CDs? What a concept. Now, if he can get his problem fixed with the stereo being mono then it would sound beautiful

I thought all stations now used .wma format (complete with DRM) except for maybe a few school stations.

OK robfwb....one more time

FEAKING WAAZ DOESN'T HAVE A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. THE STATION IS MONO BECAUSE THE LICENSEE/OWNER DOESN'T WANT TO BE STEREO....HIS EQUIPMENT IS FINE...WHY DO YOU THINK WE HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THE OWNER SO MUCH? PLEASE READ THE POSTS BEFORE OPENING YOU MOUTH....

rant off

Then he needs to shut down his stereo transmitter as it's annoying as crap. Yes, I've been reading. The point is he's sending a stereo CARRIER but mono music.

Charlie:

FEAKING>? Is that new radio lingo I don't understand like the mystery radio word PROFIT>?

Give up on the lecturing. No pressed shirts either. ;D

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. You still rock/mono or not.

Dude lighten up alittle :) We're just radio fans talking about radio. You dont need to belittle someone just because they dont have the vast knowlege you do.

Tibbs...it was the only work that began with an F that I could put there without getting bumped by the moderator ;)

He doesn't have a stereo transmitter ......there is no such thing as a "stereo carrier"....he is not sending out a stereo pilot....dont listen to it if it annoys you...lord knows there are PLENTY of other signals to listen to.

Ohh he's sending stereo. Look for the ST light to come on on 104.7. Maybe I should take a snapshot to prove it.

I've seen it while tuning in my car's radio. Just my home radio doesn't display stereo (CC radio plus)

But I can hear it.

Rob

Perhaps he is sending a stereo signal...through mono equipment. I thought it was mentioned that he recently upgraded to 100kw. Perhaps there were no more mono tx's available? ;D

Also, there probably is little reason for him to pull the stereo if it is on. A lot of old cars and older digital radios will only stop using the "seek" function if it picks up a stereo signal. I don't think the goal is a perfect sounding station. I think the goal is a community minded, money-making one.

P.S.: Somebody mention the "6-pack" CD players...hehehe. I love(d) those things. We had one with our old-school Scott Studios setup. Half the time it never worked. So, we got to board-op shows, drink beer, and smoke cigarettes during the weekends...and got paid $6.00/hour to do it!!! Just make sure you have a designated board-op (intern) at all times.

yup. It sounds good except on the headphones.. ARRGH you can hear it trying to separate the audio but it cant.

Rob

Headphones are the problem...

I have a pair of Grado headphones...set me back about $115. They are great for watching movies or listening to CD's. Plug 'em into my stereo and I get really bad results. Most stations (except classical) design their stations to be listened to in a car or on a small boom box. Therefore, the sound you get in your headphones is totally different then when your in your office five feet from the speaker.

And don't worry, I'm a professional at that stuff. I took a class in it :D

If you want to know who owns Little Hales radio stations just check out the article attached. There is some shady under the table crap being done over there and I have heard it all start with the guy on the sports show. You know who!! I have been told there is a criminal investigation ongoing looking into some of the alleged wrongdoings (fraud, theft, etc.) Something will be going down shortly!!!!
