Fort Walton's 98.1

In a lost message below the following was posted...

The reason they "seem" stronger in Destin and FWB is that the transmitter site was moved quite a while ago from Escambia Farms (near the AL border northwest of Crestview) to a 500 ft tower in downtown Fort Walton just south of Hollywood Ave.....near the Cumulus studios.

Are you sure? The signal in the Pensacola area hasn't changed in nearly 20 years. I think they are still IDing as "Andalusia, AL" and haven't used the new COL of "Holt, FL" yet. They also still sound like the transmitter is being fed by a phone line. I know they have a CP to move to FWB, but they've had that for over 5 years now.

98.1 WTKE, Holt - Pensacola - Fort Walton

I finally heard WTKE ID and they are indeed using their new COL of Holt, FL. I suppose that confirms that they have finally moved to their new tower in downtown Fort Walton. However, their signal in Pensacola sucks. For a 100kw station their signal isn't much better than 3kw WNCV which broadcast from the height on the same tower. Unless they are opperating on reduced power, this tower move must be a big disapointment for them.
50kw WKSM which also broadcast from the same tower has a much better signal than WTKE
