Fort Wayne Live DJS And Voice Tracking

Now I know most of the radio stations around here still use live djs but how many are "Live and how much is voice tracked?

some DJ's record their weekend local shows others go live even on the weekends. most DJ's through the weekdays are behind the microphone live. i can't give you a % though.

If you can't tell the difference, it means they're doing a good job tracking.

If they have a good automation program, you shouldn't be able to tell the difference. In many cases, one can adjust levels, tighten up segs and make it sound as live as possible. Voice tracking in of itself is not evil (even a jock might have to go to the bathroom or something) and if done correctly and sparingly you won't even be able to tell the difference.

Even "live" daytime shows have some voice tracking. When jocks have 6 hour shifts and are the PD and everything else, it's pretty common to voice track a couple of voice overs during your shift, some do it for a few hours, others do it once or twice an hour.

A key to discover if it's really live is when they do the weather. If they don't give current conditions, it's not live.

Good trackers can include the "current" time and temperature. I've done so in the afternoon for air overnight. Easy to do 300 days a year, more difficult when rain is forecast. Certainly sounds better than the robovoices I've heard on some stations give a timecheck.

I'm not a fan of the Weather Channel but I found their hour-by-hour temp. forecast handy when I was in a pinch. :)
