Fort Wayne News---WCKZ Sold!

Well, it looks like WCKZ will soon turn non-commercial.

According to Radio & Records, WCKZ was sold to Northeast Indiana Public Radio, the parent company of NPR talk WBOI and classical rimshot WBNI, for $1.75 million.

Does anyone have any further info?

Any guesses?

I take this as NIPR's way to finally get a better signal over the metro for their WBNI classical programming stream. What would really be an interesting surprise though, is if they would launch a 3rd format, something like XPN from Philadelphia or The Current from Minnesota.

I don't see NIPR putting up a 3rd service like MPR's "The Current" anytime soon, but I'm glad to see them expanding their classical station's outreach.

Anyone know when the flip will take place? I see no mention of it on nipr.fm.

This has been in the works for some time... in fact, it was almost a done deal when Rock 104 went back on the air according to my sources.

i heard when 102.3 went spanish that 94.1's sale was imminent.
