Did Rock 104 have another killer book?

Or did K-105 and WOWO continue to kick everyones ass?

Thats great! I also heard that K105 in Lafayette was still kickin too! Great job on getting rid of the evil empire II's country station.

I'm taking a wild guess that this is Don Elliott?

Well thank you anyway.

I know that Don is a PD in Kentucky so I put 2+2 together and apparently got 5. LOL

Does the fall book include the holiday season? And did WAJI go all Christmas as well as WMEE? If so, 3 stations that dragged out the mistletoe for a month improved...WMEE, WAJI, and WDFM in Defiance.

Thanks K105Mark. Im just shocked how BTU did so well.

The question is, since they've started playing commercials, can they keep it up?

WBTU was commercial free for the fall book.

If you call your market 210 bad self a consultant, then everyone else around here must be Mike McVay. Hate to break it to you KY but in 35 years I've made more than a few friends. Combine the resume tidbits and the names you've dropped in your posting history with a couple of well placed phone calls and emails and I can say with total confidence that the exposure of your real name would be greeted with a loud chorus of "who?" from the denizens of radio info.

I think it was truly a combination of the Commercial Free/Cash give-a-way. However if you noticed the younger leaning stations were all down...terribly down. While BTU was up. Could that be a sign of pushing the needle younger on BTU?

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "cost per point", doesn't it? =)

Based on my experience in the Fort Wayne market, it's a fickle place sometimes and this book was one of the fickle periods. First, the wow factor for WBTU is high. Congrats to Russ, that's a big accomplishment! If they keep it up, it means that (1) Russ put together a better station than K105 (and thus proving that heretage can be beaten and thus means squat) and (2) people in Fort Wayne are finally ready for something different. That said... I didn't really think the Vibe would do well so I wasn't surprised. Rhythmic AC is this year's Jack FM and, honestly, I think the format will not exist in many places within the next two years.

The rest of the book wasn't surprising for the most part except for all the rimshot signals at the bottom but I was also surprised that 'NHT didn't do better this go-round. I've caught the stream several times and thought they sounded a lot better than the last time I heard them. Maybe part of the reason I'm so disappointed is because I worked there for a while and I still hope the best for them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I believe Fort Wayne can support a well put together CHR/Pop (not the "well put together" part). The owner would have to make sure they have a decent sized promotiosn budget and they could not skimp on talent. The playlist would have to be straight middle of the road. The rhythmic side of the spectrum is already covered as is rock. A straight-up pop station could do very well. Could that be in the future for WVBB (once rhythmic ac runs its course - unless the station did well in the break downs, I have no way of knowing that) or on WNHT if SCRG decides to try something new?

Just my two pennies worth.

Jonathan

Russ could possibly bring back THE KILLER BEE - 106.3 once all is said and done!

Make no mistake, people...Oasis bought this book for 'BTU. Plain and simple. Cash giveaways, "stealth" direct marketing contests, free community appearances (that air talent is forced to attend for free), record-level television spending...and of course (what was it, 9 months?) commercial-free!

Does he have some good ideas? A couple. Unfortunately, the only way for him to continue to leverage these good ideas and maintain this momentum is to spend another...I don't know...3/4 of a million dollars...for at least one, and maybe two or three more books. Eventually the public could be fooled and new habits formed. Overall, in terms of a country music station, this thing is a joke. It is a laughing-stock in the industry (as is Scott Roddy, his "programming skills", and his prior station, Indy's "Hank FM") and, more importantly, has nothing to define/differentiate itself other than the government gimmick. The other things they prattle on about (live 24/7, "better variety"/"legends", "we play what you say") are simply lies that the public WILL eventually realize that there isn't so much as an attempt on their part to deliver on.

Add all this to the pricey LMA fees and lawyers...the AMP deal isn't looking like such a steal!

a1avet: The ratings of 97.1 Hank FM have fallen by half since Roddy was escorted from Monument Circle.

Just what R-I Indiana needs: another Russ basher.
