Fort Wayne's Billy Elvis Has Entered The Prison Building

Billy...dude. Man. I like Billy.
BUT...NOW...what do you think FedMed's going to do with him?? And if they can him, I say take Charly Butcher off WOWO...Unkle Cliff needs somebody to play with at the north building, and Butcher is a better music jock than morning host. Discuss.

I believe C. Butcher's ratings are solid. Why break something that functions?

I don't know...just because Fort Wayne radio is STALE. WAJI is elevator music, WMEE is for the kids, 96.3 and 107.9 sound the same to me, 106.3 I NEVER know what to think of them...WOWO is thick with the conservative line (which I might add I don't care for,) 1250, ugh, 1380 is automated for most of the clock on ESPN....when there IS enough sports for more than Mr. Hormann's sadly under-promoted evening show. The only stations with any zest are The Point and The Eagle (high schools, mind you, also quite automated but with lots of student influence,) and the rock stations need a KICK IN THE EAR. The Bear...it's give or take to me, and The Fort too. Wide variables to keep a broad audience happy. Rock 104 narrowed the playlist and it's still pretty good, but sometimes I miss the "loose" feel that made it fun to listen.

I'm not a consultant, I'm just a listener. Not a good one I'd say...the iPod is a good friend too. So make of my rants as you will. Tear me down, call me a fool, or pay me for my ideas. Under the table please. ;D

He won't go anywhere. If FedMed is making money off his show, they won't drop him. Happens all-the-time in this business. So long as he wasn't driving a station vehicle, he'll be fine.

Maybe his arrest was the impetus for trying a simulcast of WOWO on FM.

I think Billy will be seeking employment when his stay in jail ends.

But this thread asks good questions.

Where will Bob & Tom air in Ft. Wayne? Will WOWO drop its current morning show, Charly Butcher (news) to keep them?

My guess is yes, particularly since this is a demo play. But I see no spot for Billy.

If you think a jock getting arrested would cause a station to change formats, you have no idea how the radio business works. Radio stations are rarely built around one jock (the argument could be made that Rock 104 is built around Doc West but it's an exception because it seems to work, unlike most) and the ones that are usually don't make it.

I'd say Bob and Tom are dead. You really think that FedMed would keep them and get rid of Charly Butcher? Get real. Will never happen.

I think your reply is full of wishful thinking. Any fool could see that Bob and Tom are gone. As for Billy, who knows but they might keep him in some capacity.

Hmmmm, and I guess YOU are an expert, right?

If the intent is to get WOWO to trend to a younger demo, which is the stated goal of the simulcast, why wouldn't they consider retaining Bob & Tom, at least on the FM?

Charly is amazing and means a lot to the current (older) audience, but he is unlikely to pull in a younger demo.

Elvis' arrest obviously wasn't the main reason for the flip, only a fool would have taken that from my post ::)

It could, however, have moved up Henson's schedule for executing this.

WOWO is a legendary station. I hope this works out.

Bob & Tom will have an affiliate in Fort Wayne be it WOWO-FM or elsewhere. The 'fool' would be the one who thinks otherwise.

Seriously, I don't post here to get into arguments. How this plays out will be obvious very soon.

In the case of most of the AM talkers moving to or adding FM, the move to FM alone lowered the average age of the audience by 10-15 years.

Charly is amazing and means a lot to the current (older) audience, but he is unlikely to pull in a younger demo.

Actually, he's quite likely to pull a younger demo if Ft. Wayne follows the existing trends. Most of the other such talkers have made no changes other than the band they're using, and the younger demo found them. The problem is the technology (or lack of it on AM), not the talent.
