For those of you who like reading about radio history and such...
I've written an article titled "Recapturing the Sound of the Hometown Country Giant," which is scheduled to be published in Radio World's Nov. 23 issue.
While the primary station mentioned is Chicago's WJJD, as it was probably the best known, there are a couple of references to stations in North Florida and South Georgia. The old WMEN on 1330, owned by Charlie Porretto, was a favorite
in our family. (When my brother was a toddler he called it "13 Turtles.") I
also touch on WJOE Port St. Joe; WGRA Cairo; WGKR Perry FL and WLOR Thomasville.
The big Georgia Giant with Richard Harris, Emery Evans, Sammy Down South and others was my favorire station while growing up.
I always enjoy Mr. Braswell's historical posts. Maybe some day I'll dig up some history on Tallahassee area stations.
