forthcomings

Well its near the end of the year and we have a few prospects about to or supposed to take place that we know of.

95.9 WWBD Isle of Palms is supposed to sign on at the end of December. Havent heard anything yet. Anyone have any tidbits? 95.7 WWBD is still on the air with classic rock.

94.3 WWNQ is rumored to flip formats after the Christmas stunt. Anyone's guess as to what?

Are there any other rumblings to speak of?

Neil

Just a guess, but 94.3 signs on with a AC or Hot AC format that would go nicely with the all-Christmas format.

95.9 would be good as oldies (ahem, Classic Hits), but that's just my preference. No guess what they really will do.

If 94.3 goes any form of AC, they can hang up the bankruptcy sign. They need to make money fast. With B106 and Steve-FM, they would be the third AC and will not make one dime. They have no marketing money, so they need to do something so different that it creates a buzz. A third station playing Goo Goo Dolls and or Celine Dion makes zero sense. I will personally miss Country Legends.

They've cranked the processing up quite a bit in the past week.

You are correct. Being the third AC is probably sure quick death. As opposed to slow painful death, I suppose.

The question is which of the groups in town goes dark or is sold in distress. The forecast for the year is not good for anyone carrying a large debt-service.

I liked Country Legends, too. It was my fourth punch, but it was a nice change of pace.

Bugz, you'll love that Clear Channel are having their sales folks "do" the remotes and live appearances. Nothing drives traffic more than the kids wanting to meet the salesperson!

I hate to tell you this, but the "kids" aren't exactly crushing us with traffic at remote broadcasts, anymore, anyhow. And what for, the 4 T-shirts you have to make last for two hours? The CDs they don't need 'cause they've already downloaded the song(s) they wanted? Oh wait... the remnants of pizza the car salesmen MIGHT have left behind? haha.

This is a CLASSIC example of how radio hasn't evolved with the times, I think. Remotes aren't "events" anymore because companies cut out things like "Mad Cash Grab" booths, etc. Now, it's a jock, a van, two to three breaks an hour, with a tiny amount of giveaways, then gone.

Ron, I was probably being far too subtle with the sarcasm.

Without an on-air person there, there's even less reason to be compelled to come by. Forgot to add. The "breaks" are prerecorded and dropped into Prophet the day before the "remote."

In 2006 WLRE did over 47 live remotes, in 2007 we did 43, in 2008 we did 8, In 2009 gee I wonder where this is headed can we afford to or not to with the looks of the comming year who knows.

I just wonder if 94.3 might come out as a CHR to give WNOK a run for its money or even some sort of FM Spanish format, it will definitely be interesting to see what they come on with on Friday morning.

If they are smart, 94.3 will start with some stunting on Friday before flipping, just to generate some market talk. I don't have a clue what they are going to do, but I wonder how a Classic Rock would do against Fox. John Boy and Billy are not as hot as they used to be and Inner City would never spend a dime to defend it. A live morning show with tons of rock could make a dent. And if they can't afford a good local morning show, there is other rock syndication out there.

I would be surprised if they went Spanish. CHR certainly is a possibility as WNOK is at their most vunerable with zero live dayparts and zero tradition left.

Yeap. Definitely a contemporary format, though. The processing is cranked to high heaven on 94.3 right now. Loud, loud, loud. Some of the voice on commercials are getting clipped.

and it has been proven that the loudest station wins. you gotta love an engineer armed with a lot of compression and fast limiting.

Lol. You certainly don't crank up an AC station... all the clipping destroys clock radios and cheap desk radios. Of course, it was doing a number on my OEM Blaupunkt.
