Amazing changes in the Great Southwest! WBTT surges over Gator and Spanish radio is no longer having a siesta. WAVV forever tops ranking and picks up a younger skew probably. The effect of post-hurricane season and recovery is yet to be figured out. Look at the post- Howard Stern fall-out closely. The bars along Fort Myers Beach will host bi-annual comiserations or celebrations depended on if your audience is old, young, country, spanish or card carrying ex-members of the Howard Stern Fan Club. Let us pray that JACK doesn't fly in and absorb the under-performing stations from this book.

Cat Country 100.1

What has happened to "Cat Country" in recent years? It used to be consistantly #2 (second to WAVV) in 12+ and 101.9 (Gator Country and 102 WHEW before that) was always down in the dumps. Now it's completely reversed.

What caused such a shift in Southwest Florida country listners (when country fans are supposedly more loyal than other listeners)?

You know things are bad...

... when even Cat's former frequency at 107.1 (and with a weaker stick!) is gaining ground on 100.1!<P ID="signature">______________

100.1 has more watts on paper...but has holes in the signal that 107.1 does not have. Besides, both are blown away by the the WWGR signal at 101.9, which is one of the best signals for watts, coverage, and frankly, ratings success.

..TRUE...I've been around this market for years but also the obligatory stint across the nations station and STILL don't see how there can be so many signal holes in state with NO MOUNTAINS!

WWGR or "Gator," got it's act together in the late 90s. I always liked hearing Jim and Val (they were fun and also helped out a lot in the area with charity drives) and still love listening to Val though she's had a number of different guys on there with her, but they still get out and meet people and have fun. The music mix got better and I think Cat just got lazy over time. Plus, yeah, the signal that WWGR pounds out is hard to beat. You can get them almost to Sarasota or halfway across the state. When I go to Tampa I listen to them until the signal gets fuzzy close to there.
