Found an example...

Ok, in a much earlier posting (thread) we were discussing here the shortage of easy favorite stations in Canada.

Easy 101 ( http://www.easy101.com/ ) in Tillsonburg Ontario was very close to being a good example of one.

Unfortunately, my best (or even closer) example isn't on the radio dial, it's actually an internet station, and it seems to be very classic driven.

It's known simply as Crystal radio.
Canada's "All day, All night, all nice!" station. ------> http://crystalradio.ca/

I'd love to hear some currents thrown in. I don't mean smooth jazz, I simply mean nice instrumentals of some softer hit music without the lyrics.

Essentially, I find the stream to be very well done, with superb audio quality. An oddity....or maybe I should say unique aspect....is that in late evenings, they go exclusively to piano music. Strictly a matter of personal taste, but I'd just as soon have more strings, orchestral arrangments, and an occasional vocal mixed in, and piano music as one component of a broader mix.

Airstream FM, out of Austin Texas, takes a more "classic" approach. But their stream seems to be down more often than not.

Then there's the "Seeburg 1000" background music stream (Shoutcast) for hardcore elevator music fanatics. Instrumentals from a 16rpm vinyl player/system complete with pops/scratches/ and frequently somewhat "muddy" fidelity. Welcome to your dentist's office circa 1963!

Interesting point. Back then, which was the better known method to deal with a pain in the mouth?
Gassing or freezing before a drilling?

If it's gassing, I can see how that music must have worked wonders! :D ;)

Well, it's definitely snooze inducing. Google the website and check out the story behind the Seeburg 1000 system, how it was supposed to work, and the couple of variations/versions that evolved as the company attempted to compete with Muzak. There's a pdf of the manual for their sales force which makes for some interesting reading. Also, whether intentional or otherwise, there's a noticeable hum on the stream that adds to the overall effect....along with the fact that you can hear the player's needle drop when the disc changes.

Ya, that Easy 101 usually finds dial time for us, when we are cruising west of Toronto.

I've always had a soft spot for 'elevator music', since I grew up with the original CFMO (93.9 FM Ottawa) often wafting through our house. Crystal is cool and Seeburg looks promising, but I'm on rural high-speed, running a cap and at 128k bandwidth gets gobbled up rather quickly. :( There are lots of other choices online, the current favourite being HR4...home of some excellent German cheese, with a bandwidth, which is easy to please. http://metafiles.gl-systemhaus.de/hr/hr4_1.asx

I do also have about a thousand tracks (and growing) of 'strings', James Last, Percy Faith, 101 Strings, etc., plus another thousand 'standards', which I broadcast to our in home radios (and the neighbourhood ;D).

I'd like to check out that German stream. However for whatever reason, for me clicking the link opens winamp, but doesn't play.

Plan B will be driving to your neighborhood and listening to your broadcast. ;D

Winamp? For me, it opens up in Windows Media Player. What you can try, Cyber, is copying & pasting the link into your Media Player. Hopefully that'll do the trick, or failing that, try the HR4 web page for the various streaming choices ~> http://www.hr-online.de/website/radio/hr4/index.jsp?rubrik=23752

As for Plan B, I usually stream on 87.5...but, I'm hoping that the next time you're in the neighbourhood, we'll be able to hook up for a coffee or so. 8)
