Found out this rather interesting tidbit i.e. Dial Global/Jones Smooth Jazz

There's a news/talk station out of Greensboro, North Carolina that plays smooth jazz on weekends WZTK 101.1.

I've listened to this station when visiting Pinehurst and thought their mix was pretty good. I wrote to the program director and asked about what service they used. It was Jones.

Well, I wrote back last week or so to see what they were planning doing after 9/30, especially since it looks like they didn't miss a beat after Jones left the air.

According to the PD, Dial Global still offers non-anchored smooth jazz!

Here's today's playlist from the station.

Maybe Jones/DG SJ silently lurks awaiting a comeback!!!

That is very interesting...great investigative work!!

Now it makes more sense as to why JSJ was asking in their final Online Music Panel survey for suggestions to improve their SJ programming.

I'm curious as to how marketable a non-anchored syndicated SJ product would be to the terrestrial radio market though.

Good work, Mark. We can only hope that Dial Global/Jones is silently lurking for a "comeback." In the meantime, thanks for posting the link to the playlist. I will definitely be checking the list out on a weekly basis trolling for new artists.

The playlist definitely smacks of Jones, Mark. Oli Silk, Darren Rahn, Mike Catalano, Pamela Williams, Michael Manson, Nyee Moses, etc. Great catch.

Yep.

Notice @ 12-MM "Steps To The Capitol" Spur of the Moment and @ 9-AM "Blue Azure" by Shakatak. Other nice tracks as well that BA won't play.

I wrote back to the PD wondering if his station will offer streaming down the road. I'd rather listen to non-anchored DG SJ than that garbage they play at BA. I wonder who else uses this service?

One thing for sure...they could just add voicetracking and make it viable in a second. You wonder...if BA bombs (if it hasn't already) what could happen here? I agree with DD this is why we were still getting the SJ surveys.

Chris...I still like your own station and I will listen to it exclusively!

Love the Spur of the Moment and Shakatak tracks. Amazing how BA continues to ignore great music like that. And the thing about BA is that they also ignore deep cuts from some of Smooth Jazz's mainstays (Richard Elliot, Peter White, Brian Culbertson, etc). I know we are beating a dead horse here, but that's what made Jones so great.

That is a good point about the online survey. We can only hope that their programming is alive and well on a shelf somewhere waiting to spring back into action. In the meantime, it's great to have you aboard "The .wav," Mark!

Peace,

Chris
