Four NJ stations nominated for Ross on Radio's "Oldies Readers Poll"

WIBG-FM and Crusin 92.1 WVLT were nominated for "Greatest Medium Market Oldies Station", with Great Gold 1410 WHTG and Classic Oldies WMTR nominated for "greatest AM oldies station." Below is the Ross on Radio edition that has all the categories and nominated stations, and the link to the poll to vote. Would be nice to see a NJ station or two take home the prize....

Newsletter: http://www.radio-info.com/newsletter/html/ror-12092010.html

Poll: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ROR2010GH

I voted for WHTG for AM (Mr. Wilson's show is a treat)...but had to go for WDRC for Medium/Small market. Rockin' Ron Sedaile, and his PAMS jingles, was the deciding factor....

I miss Don Tandler's weekly countdown.

No Glenn...they have MEDIUM t-shirts to give away at remotes to the MEDIUMS who they put on the air who talk to dead people. Don't you get it? BE BIG!

HaHaHa! About the only thing WVLT should be nominated for is "Greatest Station That Wouldn't Survive A Week Without Brokered Programming!"

Sooo...I take it you aren't voting for Crusin' 92.1? LOL

Don Tandler has made WHTG AM a labor of love and he has turned it into a repectable and good sounding AM, espeically considering the lack of cash put into it. It doesn't even have its own studio. WMTR lost some good jocks when it briefly went satellite. The only live daypart is AM drive. Even PM drive is tracked and it's a tribute to Mark Mitchell how "live" it sounds...But MTR's old tracked jocks were all exceptional at that.

Don Tandler isn't with WHTG-AM anymore ...
"Big" Tom Lawler is PD there now ..

Sitting inside the old ocean one boat the other day, looking south at the two condos, the one closest to the boat, the north one, has two antennas on it. One short with two big black bays and a taller one to the right, which xmtr is what....I did notice the four bay is finally off the old Ritz WAYV xmtr, I heard they really broadcasted from the top of the Ritz, in that square attachment next to the tower....when they were the Rhythm of South Jersey ala 1980.

The antennas you are referring to are on the Ocean Club Condos, there are two
buildings. The northern building's tower has a 3 bay antenna for 96.1, WTTH,
the southern building has the tower and 2 bay antenna for 102.7, WWAC.

The 4 bay antenna was "finally" removed from the Ritz 25 years ago when it
was moved to the old Channel 53 tower in the ACUA plant in about 1985.
Yes, the studios and transmitter were on the roof, offices on a lower floor.
It was a pretty cool view from up there.

Ocean One Mall isn't actually a boat by the way, it just looks like one.

Thanks for the info, if I recall correctly, WAYV had a better signal at 20kw from the Ritz on the old tower than it has today. They were always a catch here in Philly.

Young kids playing old music. I listen to 1310 now. I don't really understand why WHTG plays more 50's music. You would think that they would have more listeners with the newer stuff (okay by newer I mean 60's and 70's).

Because, 1310/1160 has the better signal...why would Great Gold play the same songs? WHTG only plays a few 50's fer hour, and the era feels like its from 55 to 72. HTG is just counterprogramming WOBM-AM, and trying to carve a niche.

And if Al Levine can still play the hits on BLI...why can't the youngnns play oldies?
