So I'd be very curious to hear who gets "blue ribbons" for their ability to spot a major story early and do something with it that day. Unfortunately I had mostly been watching TV all morning; but did sample the dial from time to time to see how people were handling. I was stunned to find so many music stations doing "business as usual" -- playing music and referencing updates in between records (Memo to staff: If we're ever attacked, remember to be brief and for God's sake try to fit the news in over the lip of an Alanis record ... but don't STOP DOWN).

On the other hand, other morning shows seemed to recognize what happened and tossed format and immediately went to listener calls all morning (which I obivously believe is the thing to do). News stations, of course, have a different responsibility -- they SHOULD "Stay the course**" as that's where people will be diving for updates. But when the country is unraveling, planes are grounded, and getting "Santana Spins" is still the #1 thing on your mind .... isn't it time for a guest speaker at your next staff retreat???

**: Not sure why TV stations consider martahon phone calls about broken dishes in Yelm (after an earthquake) to be compelling ... but so be it!

Mark & Brian signed off two hours into their show and let their affilliates do their thing. The Buzz ran AP radio news reports until 10:00AM, then Leykis came on until 1:00PM, followed by BJ Shea, who stayed on until 3:00, followed again by Leykis. My TV was on the fritz at the time, so I didn't see much of the coverage that day. My mother brought over my 13" TV I had at her house. I still have all the stuff recorded from radio that day in one of my aircheck boxes. KMTT replayed the audio of Letterman's speech from his return show earlier this morning.<P ID="signature">______________

Unreal Twist Of Fate

This was played coming out of the commerical break before news of the attack:

"I AM THE GOD OF ALL FIRE, AND I BRING YOU...FIRE!" (Crazy World of Arthur Brown)

About three minutes later, sure enough, came the confirmation.
