FOX 1410 - Lafayette "L-Town Hour"

Has anybody heard of this Andrew Sparks on the L-Town Hour now? Where does he come from and such? I've never heard of him until now, but he can't read. Otherwise he's not bad. The L-Town Hour really needs to be longer....

I'm trying to figure out what happened to Holmes? Is he still part of the station? They now refer to someone else as GM. Is that just a title instead of pay? The only saving grace for Sparks is he's a hair better tha Holmes, but truthfully, both are terrible.

Well, from what I understand Holmes was only doing the show to help it get up and running. He never really wanted to be a full-time talent for the station, anyway. I haven't heard much about him lately since he left the show, but he has to still be there because he owns the station and I still hear those spots with him on them. I am glad they are doing a local talk show like that though but it has to be hard to find good talent for a talk show format like that in a Lafayette market and especially for a station that probably has a very thin budget. I only say that because how much money could they have? They've only been on air for like 6 months...

Personally I think lafayette's better off for having someone with the balls to launch a news/talk format finally! I mean hell, who ever thoguht lafayette would have their own FOX affiliate with their studio open to everybody through the windows at 9th and Main! It's genius if you ask me! Finally a station that does more than play the same songs over and over all day long.

It is good that they are trying but remember, he does not own the station. Angotti still owns it, they are simply renting it.

Actually, to be technical, he does own the station, just not the license. Through an LMA, which is what 1410 is, they own the programming and the station. The license itself is kept back with AMP. Big difference.

Well, I think they are doing a pretty good job considering they only have four people running the whole deal.

They took the plunge and with limited funds have managed to put it on the air and are giving it a go. Radio needs more people who do it simply for the love of radio, like it was back in the good ol days.

Imagine the direction they would take with a music station, something better than 300 songs on repeat I would imagine.

Really, GOOD LUCK to these guys!!! L-Town needs something refreshing .....because tony b's socks really sinks along wih his sho.w..hahaha

Tony B's socks? Eewww. it is pretty amazing they keep that place running with so little a staff. Hope they can keep it up! They've done a lot of common-sense things though when you think about local radio. Good radio comes from actually listening to your audience...

in the beginning it was "lame hour". guests didn't show, they had a signal glitch problem, you never knew if the switch was going to be turned on in the morning when there were hours of dead air. now sparks calls himself the "conservative conscience" of tippecanoe county. i didn't know conservatives had a conscience. while it has improved slightly, it is still the most painful 60 minutes in greater lafayette radio.

Wow. So now it's gone from talking about radio persay to politics on thsi board. Funny at how even though it's the most painful 60 minutes, you're still listening!

Negative, in my opinion. Since "conscienceofradio" made that flippant remark on this board, the c.w. (that's "conventional wisdom") is that "conscienceofradio" has never listened to the show.

Disclaimer: I have never listened to the show either, as 1410AM is not received on my radio.

i listen nearly every day. i have tried to be a loyal listener. sparks is the one with the big political mouth. he has turned it into a political forum. you can tell by listening that he thinks he has hit the big time. he must work to cheap to get someone else.

Oh Really, ...well at least 1410AM is interested in the news! Not like the other radio stations in Lafayette that are cheap and have dumped all their news reporters. Advertisers should support this local station that cares about community news and events. It's better to have a voice in the community than be just a card reader - button pusher.....

1410 might be interested in the news. So are a lot of people. That doesn't mean everyone should be given a microphone. This is some really bad radio ladies and gentleman (the hosts favorite line). Lafayette should be able to do better but because of the cutbacks and the suits pretty much calling the shots on something they know nothing about, you get this.

For crying out loud, the station just launched mere months ago....let 'em get some money in their budget first so they can compete equally with the other stations in town. I'm sure things will get better with them, but it does all come down to money and creativity. At least FOX 1410 is trying. I mena geeze, they've only got like 3 or 4 people down there. Other staions in Lafayette have like 20-30. I think it's amazing what they've been able to do thus far...

No doubt. I've noticed they've been looking pretty agressively for a new salesperson lately. I think a lot of stations are hurting in the sales area though. What a tough economy to start a new radio station! I can't imagine what those guys down there are going through! And without a good sales crew, they have to be killing themselves just to stay on air at all. best of luck to them. Lafayette NEEDS talk radio in the mix.

1316wwwood, so you got the microphone knocked out of your hands and are a little bitter at radio now. Get over it!!! 1410 is doing what other's in Lafayette don't have the guts for. It is better to have a voice than be just a card reader...button pushers....

No microphone knocked out of my hands. Just got out while the gettin' was good and don't miss it for a second. Just sad to see and hear a great business go the direction it's heading. I'll check back in with 1410 from time to time. Settle down. Everybody has to start somewhere. I actually get a lot of enjoyment out of bad radio and always have. I would like nothing better than to have them succeed. But realistically, now being on the outside for many years, I don't see it happening. I feel for my friends who still have to deal with it. Those friends are in markets much bigger than Lafayette and therefore their problems are even bigger. Nobody wants to see anyone fail. But it is what it is.
