Fox 29 News scoops the "Big Guys"

I noticed last week that Ch29 News was covering Mayor Nutter LIVE at 11:10pm at the I-95 column that was collapsing. Ch29 dumped Seinfeld till 11:20 or so, and was first with the news that the roadway would be closed for several days. 3/6/10 were noticibly missing. Ch6 mentioned the closing at 11:25. Ch3 at 11:30...both as "breaking news". Only Ch29 seemed to think it important enough to cover. It was.

This night, Ch29 scooped the others with the hostage situation on the Ben Franklin bridge. They were there so long, I feared the chopper would run out of fuel! They dumped Simpson's for live coverage, bouncing back and forth to the internet with a live stream.

And it paid off again, as 3 was carrying NCAA(sometimes with a silent pic in pic & scroll), 6 had Jeopardy, 10 had Extra. Only Ch29 had it live as the dopey driver surrendered. 6-10 broke in just after the fact with "moments ago" tape. 3 was "slam dunked" with NCAA by Fox.

Nice job...you've come a long way from WIBF-TV 29 in Jenkintown!

I wasn't aware of two "hostage situations." Wow two DRPA bridges with similar situations, how did traffic survive? Sure am glad I take Betsy Ross home every night. Since you feared the chopper running out of fuel, what did you do to try to alleviate another crisis?

Maybe we can get Julius to explain more in-depth with news links...

Honestly, I just don't see the value in covering the story live for so long as any of the stations did. Worthy of mentioning on the newscasts, sure. Maybe a scroll or split screen at the end, but so much time was spent with no developments that it seemed like overkill, even by local news standards in any market.

I work in Collegeville, PA and live in Gloucester Twp., NJ. My wife works in the city and our daughter is in daycare in Jersey. It WAS big news to us that negher of us could get over the bridge that we normally take (the green bridge) and had to divert to another bridge (the blue bridge) to pick up a 3 year old. It's a good thing he didn't pick tonight with all the activity at the stadiums tonight.

It makes for good TV. How many car chases are live on TV in LA?

We pay our $6 a day to DRPA so they can pay $10M to the new stadium in Chester while they're going to raise the tolls to pay for the redecking on the green bridge.
