FOX 29 WTXF Will join the NASCAR race in progress tomorrow night

"Despite" what? They made a decision that in this case, they're better served by carrying the debate than the start of a race. Being and O&O doesn't mean there are never pre-emptions.

I guess 29 has its reasons for pre-empting the start of the race for this turkey, but why would the candidates even agree to the schedule? Saturday nights have the lowest TV audiences in the entire week, and a bunch of rabid NASCAR fans (who probably don't have a very high opinion of Democrats anyway) are going to be very cheesed off.

Maybe they should have held it on C-SPAN - you know, so that there's an element of transparency. ;)

Maybe Fox 29 didn't want to lose ad dollars for their week night shows. Do the candidates have to buy the time? If so, maybe this was a cheaper time as it's a lesser ratings time and with TV time being very expensive in a major market, maybe the politicians were glad to get this time. Would they care about cheesing off conservative viewers who aren't going to vote for them anyway. Better to cheese off those "pickem up truck boys" than their own constituency. Besides, I believe ESPN will also be carrying the Dover race on Sunday (not sure about Saturday), I'm not a NASCAR fan, so I may be incorrect.

The candidates do not buy time for debates.

Primary races in local or state elections don't get prime slots, it's just the way things are. No need to overanalyze things and look for some bigger conspiracy about NASCR viewers vs democraic voters and all that.
