FOX 5 News at Noon

I just noticed FOX 5 expanded their !2 noon newscast to 1 hour. Channel 2 expanded to 1 hour last year.

That reminds me of the '70s. In 1972 Channel 11 started
noon newscasts on Saturday and Sunday; Channel 2 followed
suit in 1973, then Channel 5 in 1974. At that point Channel
11 bowed out and went back to ABC (its network then)
programming. A few years later, 1978, Channel 11 expanded
its 6 PM news to an hour on grounds that it didn't look good
to have just 30 minutes when 2 and 5 were both doing an
hour.

When something gets hot, everybody copies. Wonder how
long it will be before 11's noon news goes to an hour (46
is out--Young And The Restless is on at 12:30)?

[/quote] If it stops running "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire".

Y&R doesn't stop WRAL, the CBS affiliate in Raleigh-Durham, who delays it to 4 to accommodate an extra half hour of news at noon. Also I believe the Louisville CBS affilate does this too.

I think I'm the one who usually points out that
Y&R is on in Raleigh and Louisville at 4; WKYT,
the CBS affiliate in Lexington, also does an hour
of local news at noon and runs Y&R on a day-
behind at 9 AM (they have Oprah at 4). The
problem with Ch. 46 putting Y&R at 4 is that
they have a 4 PM newscast (unless you figure
they might throw in the towel on it); to run it
at 9 AM is out, since they have The 700 Club,
and I'm not sure what they have at 10 AM, nor
can I figure what they might put at 1 PM (King
Of Queens reruns, maybe?).

No, I still think 11 would be more likely to expand
its noon news than 46 would, since NBC is down
at 12:30.
