Fox 61 Needs a Spell Checker

I caught a spelling error not once, but THREE times as Fox 61 was displaying the UConn-Chattanooga final score last night. Once during the 6:30 update, once during the 10:00 news and once during the 11:00 news. I'm sure it happened several other times too.

Note to WTIC: Chattanooga has 2 t's not one. Doesn't anyone check this stuff?

Ever notice the big background noise level on the news set, it's almost like there's an open mic somewhere cranked up nearly full in order to get the sound of the hustle and bustle in the newsroom. Seriously, is this on purpose?

Sadly, this happens all too often in newsrooms all over the country. I've seen similar gaffes on such networks as CNN and Fox News too. Basically I attribute it to a number of factors, including the increased workloads that chyron operators are working under these days, the fact that stations are often hiring undereducated operators (to save money), and just plain ol' sloppiness.

They are throwing these shows together in a hurry, don't spell check things, and too few people on staff are sharp enough to catch some of these misspellings before they go out on air. It's happening more and more often.
