FOX 61 WILL LAUNCH MORNING NEWSCAST

If done well, a local morning news program beats the heck out of the network shows any day. After all, local news and traffic don't stop at 6:59 and the local cut-ins have been increasingly squeezed by the immense weight of the (network & local) spot load.

Basically, local news is done on the big guys before 7.

It all depends on the execution. If they make it entertaining (see Fox 25 Boston), it can do well.

The press release doesn't say what time the morning show will air, so we don't know if it will air from 5-9, 5-7 or 7-9. Ch 3 is local during most of the 7 a.m. hour and WTNH airs a 7-8 cast on WCTX.

Fox 61 is doing the right thing by expanding past it's one late-night newscast.

If it means less time for crap like informercials and the trash talk shows/court shows, then I'm all for it! :)

Fox 61 Morning News coming soon

Tribune Co. does long-form morning news already on its biggest stations, including CW11 in New York.

BTW, please turn Caps Lock off when inputting the title of a thread. We're not hard of hearing.

This plan for morning news is older than most think. Back in 2000 when I was working at FOX 61, I designed a rundown for the morning newscast, but Tribune kept tossing out the idea. This time, it's apparantly Tribune demanding that it be created. I stil have the rundown in my computer, but no doubt the concept has changed many times :)
