Fox 8 for Sale?

As a friend of mine who works for a Local TV LLC property put it, "this shouldn't be news. It's been for sale since the day it opened!" I wonder, though, how it will affect Tribune since his station's employees are Tribune employees (as, apparently, are most of the people who work at Local's stations).

True but what makes it fun is who will buy it. If tribune ditches the newspapers, the will have cash and since the have a lot of sharing (news, LMA's in other markets) I can see WJW becomes WJW-TV a Tribune company officially as the two groups have a lot in common and combined they will have a good footprint and a nice launch pad for future syndicated programming.

Could another network end up purchasing WJW? Maybe ABC or CBS. Then again, that would be one more affiliate switch for 8. They flipped from ABC/DuMont to CBS in 1956 or '57 and again from CBS to FOX in '94.

Who knows? What if Gannett or Scripps purchases 8 to form a duopoly? That's just wishful thinking.

WKYC-3,WEWS-5, and WJW-8 are all top 3 stations in town and the FCC does not allow duopoly among the top 4 stations in a market. ABC, CBS, and NBC are not in buying mode but i they were I could see comcast buying gannett before local TV, ABC to buy scripps before local TV and I thought CBS offered to buy WOIO/WUAB and raycom declined.

I could see FOX repurchase ch 8 as the 2 biggest reasons why they sold WJW was a.) Cleveland is an AFC town, and b.) they needed the money for the purchase of the Wall Street Journal. Since Cleveland as of right now is still a top 20 market I could see network interest as Cleveland is considered a major market.

If FOX was to repurchase 8, wouldn't they have to purchase another station too. I could see 43, 55 or even 61 joining 8. One of the reasons FOX sold the station in the first place was that other markets had a duopoly and Cleveland didn't.

43 is not for sale as it seems to be WOIO on WUAB my 43 the block and raycom is quite successful with both of them together. 61 is owned by Univision the new 5th place network and with Cleveland they are able to have an additional top 20 market. WBNX is a likely if Ernst Angely decides to get out of the broadcast business or just wants the additional cash. I could see FOX or CBS if they can convince raycom with money to buy 19/43 as both stations together are worth more than a standalone 3.5.8

If Fox were to purchase 8, they wouldn't HAVE to buy another station in the market, but Fox has been known to prefer doing business that way. If they were to buy WJW-TV back, I'm sure they'd pay a lot less than they got for it. I believe it was one of these sites that mentioned Local TV was paying $66 million/month on the stations they bought from Fox, most of which is interest.
