Fox airs "Simpsons" episode from 1991 with Michael Jackson

The Fox network aparently worked out a deal, and earlier tonight showed an episode from "The Simpsons" from 1991 featuring Michael Jackson as a guest voice, where he plays a crazy guy in a mental institution that claims to be Jackson.

I thought the network only had rights to the current and previous seasons, with the previous 18 seasons in syndication.

Apparently, they worked out a special deal with the producers and 20th TV, considering the death of Michael Jackson and his upcoming funeral.

I didn't see this repeat, but did they include an "In Memoriam" slide at the end? And was it for Michael or for "John Jay Smith" (Jacko's alias in the credits)?

I watched it, and there was nothing about it being in memory of Micheal Jackson. The end credits were not changed either. The only change I noticed was the 1-900 number was censored on the Krusty brand cereal box at the beginning of the episode. I guess there must be a real Krusty chat hotline now that they don't want to give free advertising to!

No slide; they ran that last week at the end of "Do the Bartman." Also interesting was the credits ran with no promos over top (with the "Happy Birthday Lisa" song playing).

I was surprised when I saw on the on-screen guide they would be playing that episode. Didn't watch Fox much during the week/weekend so I don't know if it was advertised. It's been years since I've seen it. This is around the time when The Simpsons shifted from being mostly about Bart to Homer.
