FOX is licking its chops...

From FOX Business:

Favre-Brady Or Patriots-Giants Is a Super Bowl Dream Match-up

A sport can't go wrong when a New York-based team like the Giants is playing for a championship. New York remains the media capital of the world and, naturally, the global capital of hype.

FOX got its wish.

Believe me, Fox wanted Green Bay or (preferably) Dallas vs New England. The New Jersey Giants were a wild-card team who's strength is winning on the road (which of course is how they beat Dallas and GB). But there's a reason they play the games....

Besides, despite being in the #1 TV market, the Giants don't have a real national following. Dallas and Green Bay do. Both teams are either absolutely loved or absolutely despised nationwide (especially in Washington and Chicago, respectively ;D ). The Giants are respected at best and aren't a team that anyone can really hate.

I strongly disagree ;D

This is payback for them missing out on the triple simulcast that CBS, NBC, and the NFL Network had with the first game

(Mostly due to COPS & AMW).

When I watch the first game, I thought it would be a perfect super bowl.

NOW I GOT MY WISH ;D

As for the preference of NY Giants over the other top NFC teams, NY Giants to me is just as big as the rest of them.

It's just that they happen to play their games in another state, and have to compete what feels like a million sports teams in NYC.

I wouldn't be surprise if Joe Buck mispronounce them and thought it was the baseball NY Giants team of the old days.

But this is good because it will get the media off of Eli Manning's back, and who knows, might win the game.

Then again, I want to see a perfect NFL season finally, and the boys from Boston might give it to me ;D!

They are the New York Giants and are incorporated as New York Football Giants Inc. The Mara and Tisch families have come down hard on anyone who tries to force the team to ID as New Jersey.

Fox Business Channel got it wrong. In New York City the Yankees are bigger than the NFL. In northern New Jersey the fan following is Yankees first, Rutgers second, then everything else.

That said, a lot of people around the NFL are pulling for the Giants. Belicheck's Bullies are cheaters who run up the score and play dirty.

I know. I was just being a wise-a**. ;D

So am I. Props to the Giants for ridding the world (not to mention all of us in Phoenix who won't have to put up with them for the next couple of weeks) of the Cowboys and Packers, at least until next season. Since they gave the Patsies a game at the Meadowlands (where they've been rather lousy) and they've won 10 road games in a row, they have a good shot to ruin the Pats chances of a perfect season. I'm a Giants fan for the next two weeks.

Well, if "Hoffa Field" was a TV station, and assuming it's COL was the
municipality in which it is physically located, it's legal ID would be (using
hypothetical calls of course) "WNYG-TV East Rutherford"--which of course
is in New Jersey.

Now over to the Maras and Tisches to petition Uncle Charlie for a COL
change. Hey, how about a move-in...to New York City! ;D

Agreed. One more thing to think about: Had the Packers had advanced, SB42 could have potentially been billed Brett Favre's swan song. Gamble (not literally!) on Green Bay pulling off the upset, and Favre could then choose to retire as a Super Bowl champion a la Jerome Bettis (although Favre had already won a ring in 1996).

But as previously mentioned, the Giants are a major-market team. Not only did Fox get its wish, but Joe Buck did as well. Has anyone ever noticed how pro-Giants he has been over the last several years?

Aside from FOX flagship WNYW TV 5, look at FOX affiliates in markets where there is a heavy ex-NY'er presence (specifically Giants fans), like WFLX TV 29 West Palm Beach and WSVN TV 7 Miami (more so the former than latter).

I'd throw in KTTV 11 Los Angeles and maybe KDFX-CA 33 Palm Springs in there as well, what with all those ex-Noo Yawkuh Hollywierd-types in southern California. ;D

We have to include the rest of the FOX affiliates serving NY state. They have their share of Giants fans as well. :p

Yeah, we've gotten plently of Giants games on KTTV over the last few years. I don't have a real rooting interest in either of these teams, but I do enjoy a well-played football game, and if this game is played like their matchup in week 17, this will be one of the better played Super Bowl in recent years. In fact, the Patriots' three previous trips to the Super Bowl have all been close games...

SB XXXVI: Pats 20, Rams 17
SB XXXVIII: Pats 32, Panthers 29 (the infamous Janet Jackson halftime show took place here)
SB XXXIX: Pats 24, Eagles 21

Ya know, the '07 Dolphins know quite a lot about losing by three points... ;)

That's only because you usually get the No. 1 team (Buck/Aikman/Oliver) by default, and as mentioned earlier, Buck just happens to call a lot of Giants games.
