Fox kills what audiences killed several seasons ago

Now,if FOX decides to cancel American Idol and The Simpsons then the TV world would be in a better place.

Well, with Fox putting Malcolm into the Friday night death slot, where they never really had a successful Friday night show (remember that X-Files was a Sunday night staple for many years, and only moved to Fridays towards the end of its run), I'm not surprised at all. I didn't know that they moved Malcolm to Friday nights until the night of its season preimire. As for That 70's Show, as big of a fan of the show, I'm kinda glad that it's coming to an end. You don't expect to survive when the actors playing your central character and arguably the most popular supporting character decide to call it quits. The best thing for them to do is bring back Topher Grace (I've read somewhere that he wants to come back to do a few epsiodes) and finally close out the Eric-Donna relationship.

Malcolm frequently being joined in progress during the 2004 NFL season (after teasing viewers with the show's intro) when it was on Sunday night probably didn't help, either.

After last Wednesday numbers, "Idol" will be around for awhile. The Simpsons? Don't know.

Now..did Fox kill off "Family Guy" for the fourth time?

No. It's back with a new episode on the 29th. It's off this week due to the NFC Championship game (Carolina @ SEATTLE).
______________

I don't think "Malcolm" and "That 70's Show" were really cancelled.

I believe the producers of both shows decided last year to pull the plug and that the current season (2005/2006) of both these programs would be the last.

"Amercian Idol" is Fox's top-rated show and I believe "Simpsons" is Fox's third most popular-show (with "24" their second most-popular series).

I thought "Simpsons" had been renewed for at least two or three more seasons, and I would think "Idol" will be around for a while as well.

Through the history of broadcasting, talent shows have often been long-running hits. The "Original Amateur Hour" began on network radio in 1935 and stayed on the air until it's original host, Major Bowes, passed away in 1946. Two years later, it was brought to TV by new host Ted Mack, and it ran on the tube for twenty-two years (and a total of almost 25 years when the TV and radio runs are combined).

"Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts" began on radio in 1946, moved to TV in 1948, and would go on to enjoy a ten-year run on TV. During part of it's television run, it was the nation's top-rated prime-time network program.

And the original "Star Search" (with Ed McMahon) ran for twelve years (1983-1995).

If the long-term success of "Amateur Hour", "Talent Scouts", and "Star Search" are any indication, "Idol" may be with us for many years to come.

"That 70s Show" may have made it another year had Topher Grace stayed on. But "Malcolm In The Middle" was the victim of the kids growing up. While it might have been funny to have the mom screaming and yelling at the kids, it's now just pathetic. These "kids" are grown and should know better by now. Malcolm is old AND smart AND should be outta the house. While Dewey is turning into the most effiminate child since the kid who played Johnathan on "Who's The Boss." These aren't good developements
______________

While I am not a big fan of "AI" (anymore), if you were a network exec, your attitude would be completely different. Do you even know:

1. ...how much FOX is charging for 30 second ad during "AI"?? (take that Super Bowl!!)
2. ...how many average viewers that show brings in weekly?
3. ...that it was the most watched show last year?

They're still on the air?

I don't think I've watched a new episode(or rerun for that matter) of The Simpsons in forever, let alone Malcolm in the Middle and That 70s Show. I didn't realize the latter two were still on. I don't even know who the last three American Idols have been ethier. As for the Simpsons, they were "cool" 12 years ago. I'm surprised that haven't already been eclipsed by something else.

Infact, I haven't watched FOX that much since X-Files went off the air.

hmm.. you dont know who the last 3 American Idols have been.. but yet, you sure know how many there have been since the first year. I dont know how anyone can not like America Idol... Sure, the judges are lame, but it's a fun show, where families can get into together and actually sit around the TV and watch it together every week.

Re: They're still on the air?

Well, it's not hard to tell how many idols there have been when I see an advertisement for The "Fifth Season" of the show :D

..."X Files" was on Friday nights when it first aired. It was moved to Sundays then moved back to Fridays towards the end of its run.

Oh, is MAD TV still going? I hope it's still good, 'cuz MAD Magazine has been dead for years; they just haven't had enough sense to stop publishing it.

IMHO, Bart & Co. have stayed on because Fox has never felt the need to fix the show cuz it ain't broke.

Um, replace that '25' with '33' and the math professor won't mark it off.
