> Now, if FOX decides to cancel American Idol and The
> Simpsons then the TV world would be in a better place.
"Amercian Idol" is Fox's top-rated show and I believe "Simpsons" is Fox's third most popular-show (with "24" their second most-popular series).
I thought "Simpsons" had been renewed for at least two or three more seasons, and I would think "Idol" will be around for a while as well.
Through the history of broadcasting, talent shows have often been long-running hits. The "Original Amateur Hour" began on network radio in 1935 and stayed on the air until it's original host, Major Bowes, passed away in 1946. Two years later, it was brought to TV by new host Ted Mack, and it ran on the tube for twenty-two years (and a total of almost 25 years when the TV and radio runs are combined).
"Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts" began on radio in 1946, moved to TV in 1948, and would go on to enjoy a ten-year run on TV. During part of it's television run, it was the nation's top-rated prime-time network program.
And the original "Star Search" (with Ed McMahon) ran for twelve years (1983-1995).
If the long-term success of "Amateur Hour", "Talent Scouts", and "Star Search" are any indication, "Idol" may be with us for many years to come.
