FOX MLB Game of the Week/Houston

I realize these games that they show are chosen before the season, but the fact that KRIV here in Houston is showing the Braves/Nationals game today, instead of Yankees/Red Sox is a TRAVESTY OF MONUMENTAL PROPORTIONS. There are NO playoff implications on the Braves game. They have the division sewed up and Washington has fallen behind the main contenders in the Wild Card. The Red Sox/Yankees matchup pulls HUGE numbers everytime they carry it. It does as well as the Astros. I realize that this is a National League city, but with so much on the line in the Red Sox/Yanks game, it is like watching a playoff game everytime the two teams hook up, and barring Fox is carrying an Astros game, it should be shown in this market. Instead of double-digit shares for the Red Sox/Yanks, KRIV will be lucky to get a very small single digit share.

I just had to rant on this.
______________

The only problem is Houston is full of, much to my dismay, ATL fans. You will find this a fact whenever the ATL come thru and plays a series at MM Park. The only question is who would be worse....ATL Fan or Yank/Bo Sox fan?

Yeah, but they don't translate when it comes to ratings. The Atlanta games just don't get the same kind of shares. My Dad grew up in Massachusetts and is a Red Sox fan, so I always cheer for them. As a Mets fan, I LOATHE the Braves & Yankees.
______________

I know that all too well.

Today, once again here in Houston, Fox dropped the ball again. The noon game that was carried on KRIV was New Orleans/Carolina. Right after Carolina kicked the game tying field goal with about 2:00 left, New Orleans gets the ball back and starts driving. What does Fox do, they go to a break and then they flex/fold to the Cowboys game. Since Houston now has the Texans, it is no longer a "must carry" market for the Cowboys. And, given the amount of people from New Orleans that are in our town, KRIV should have stayed with the Saints game for the duration. This was the BEST sports story of the day, and we missed the game winning field goal and reaction, because we couldn't miss the start of the Cowboys game. Give me a friggin' break. I hope KRIV got a lot of calls. Maybe next time, steps will be put in place to prevent this mishap.

Alot of that sillyness is on the network end, not local affiliate. So calling KRIV wont garner you much unfortunately.

Not exactly. All of Texas is a designated home market for the Cowboys. The only exception is in Houston when there's a direct conflict with a Texans home game.

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/3349493

Since Texas is a Cowboys home market for Fox, the network was required to pull the plug on Saints-Panthers a few seconds before John Carney's game-winning field goal so Fox affiliates in the state could be shifted to a mandatory commercial break and then to the kickoff in San Diego.

Fox spokesman Dan Bell said the network could not dump the commercial break, which it is required to provide for network affiliates. The network also needs time to switch satellite transponders for its affiliates to the 3:15 p.m.game.

Bell also said the network was not allowed to keep Channel 26 and other stations on the fringe of Cowboys territory on the New Orleans game without also denying the opening seconds of Cowboys-Chargers to Dallas-area stations that, understandably, want to see every second of the Cowboys game.

Re: Fox fumbles the ball again Sunday...

It's funny. Fox gave a different excuse last year, when KRIV did not carry Cowboys games, which were not in conflict with Texans games. There were a few Cowboy games that KRIV did not carry. I guess a lot of people complained about that last year, and Fox changed the policy for Houston.
______________

You sure about that? I thought all the games blacked out last year were due to a conflict with the Texans. :-/

When we (the Cowboys) were REALLY bad in the late 80s, channel 11 started carrying Saints games instead. This was during the Bobby Hebert era when they were a playoff contender.
