Fox News Alert: "AMW" To Return On FNC?

Roger Ailes, chairman of Fox News Channel and "a fan" of "America's Most Wanted," has had "premilinary discussions" with host John Walsh about bringing the show to FNC after it finishes up its run on the Fox broadcasting network this weekend.

It would probably be buried on Sunday nights, alongside Oliver North's "War Stories". My guess, anyway.

If nothing else, "America's Most Wanted" has been a tremendous public service to law enforcement these many years, and even though I don't watch the show myself....it would be a shame if it were to disappear altogether.

Even buried on a weekend night, it could still perform this public service.

Perhaps they looked and arrived at the conclusion it isn't the way they want to go.

Really surprised they're not looking at Fox-owned My Network TV for this show.

The problem with MyTV, on the opinion of many, is that it's ALL RERUNS ALL THE TIME...so that may be why it's bad to move anything current to that station.

People will assume it's a rerun and not bother watching.

AMW needs to be in front of the maximum number of eyeballs if the whole premise is to work.
Shunting it off to a network with a truncated audience will greatly reduce the number of captures,
and put it on the glide path to a slow death.

Syndicating it to a sufficient number of local stations would probably do the trick.

I remember about ten years ago when FOX pulled it the first time.Ratings were not that great and FOX decided to renew it as a public service on Saturday nights. The lowest watched night in television.

I also remember that there was a huge outcry from law enforcement agencies nationwide to keep it on the air. This time I didn't hear a peep!

While we're at it...anyone remember "Prime Suspect" (no relation to the PBS miniseries that starred Helen Mirren or the upcoming U.S. version), which was a syndicated ripoff of AMW from 1992-94 with Mike Hegedus?

Lawless, aired for one week back in '97 also starred the mother from Fresh Prince of Bell Air

No relation to Rick Lawless, who co-starred on "Herman's Head," another winner for Fox.
