Fox News: Asleep at the switch!

As a Fox News Channel fan, it pains me to bring this up but it's true and it's interesting: Fox is pretty much snoozing through the terrorist attacks and hostage-taking story in Bombay (yes, it'll always be Bombay to me). While CNN and MSNBC are wall to wall with this big story tonight (albeit using the 'B' team), FNC has shown reruns of O'Reilly and now Greta's interview with Sarah Palin - which is well past it's shelf life. Only their half-hourly cut-ins lead you to believe that anything is amiss in the world and they, frankly, tempt you to go elsewhere.

I know it's the night before Thanksgiving, but geez.....surely someone should be on call for the anchor desk. No contingency plans? Very disappointing. It's sad when even MSNBC is kicking sand in Fox's face, which is what's happening tonight.

By the way, Happy Turkey Day everyone..... ;)

The Fox Report covered it ad nauseum already, and updates were provided on the news breaks.

You had choices if you wanted wall-to-wall on this one. Thankfully, for those who weren't that interested (a huge chunk of America), there was another choice.

If you're among that huge chunk of America who lacks the intellectual curiosity to want to know what's happening to one of our country's primary economic partners, you should be a regular viewer of Fox News.

Ya know, the leftist rants against Fox attempting to marginalize it's credibility get really old. [EDIT]

[EDIT-political baiting]

Jimmy... your job is not to educate, elighten or expand the minds of the masses. Your job is to get ratings so that the sales departmen may then convert those ratings into your salary. If you see your job as anything different then you are in the wrong career.

Get back to me later about a country I care about, in the meantime that fire truck ripping down the stree here is of far greater interest to me.

You're upset about FNC not being timely while being proud that you hold fast to calling a city by the wrong name?

I work with several people from Bombay - all refuse to call it Mumbai; it's Bombay to them.

I'd match their grasp of modernism against anyone's. Point being, a government agency can declare a name to be anything; that doesn't mean that the people must accept it, or that it's wrong to say no to the government.

After all, the 2008 Olympics were held in China, not Zhongguo, which was the name the government tried to impose at the same time they changed Peking to Beijing.

I'll start calling it Mumbai when they redubb "Bewitched" reruns so Samantha says "Calling Dr. Mumbai, calling Dr. Mumbai emergency, come right away."

:)

And the succession of roadside signs would look pretty dumb if they said
"Myanmar Shave." ;)

I agree about Fox paying lip service to the India story. They ran a "montage" wrap up. Say what? Yes, a "montage wrap up." That's the kind of romantic dribble I expect from my small market local stations, but not on a national cable channel like Fox News. No wonder CNN is beating their Axx.

And while I'm on the topic, what's the deal with setting news stories to sound track? The minute I see that on a package, it loses my respect. It's one thing for ET to do it, but inappropriate for serious journalism. This is why nobody takes news seriously any more. CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite didn't even have a music open, just an announcer and simple super imposed graphics. Those were the days...

Ok, off my soap box now.

Though they did have kind of an opening theme -- if you count the teletype machine as a musical instrument.

Thank you for clarifying your position on intellectual curiosity, MT.

I'm not a Fox News basher, but seriously... they were airing "Miller Time" - the best of Bill O'Reilly and Dennis Miller and then Greta's interview with Sarah Palin over and over again.

Fox owns Star News in India... they have HUGE resources they could use if they wanted to cover the story.

Indeed!
It is a very newsie kind of sound, and KNX in Los Angeles ran that in the background as a sound effect. I've always thought the networks should do the same thing just for effect. But I guess I'm old school on that one!

KTVU in Oakland had the same sound effect til about a year ago.

Like I always say, capitalism is very good at giving people what they want, but not so much at getting people what they need. (To be all that they can be, if not to survive; the latter category crosses over into "want" anyway.)

A perfect example of the staggering immorality and anti-intellectualism of a large part of the modern-day American "conservative" movement.
