Fox News Coming To Canada

Actually, it's a brand new cable news network loosely based on the success of Fox News Channel.

Sun TV News, with the slogan, "Your home for hard news and straight talk," will launch in Canada on July 1. The network, which will utilize sources of the Toronto Sun newspaper, which leans right, plans to present a schedule similar to what Fox News does here in the U.S.: general news reporting during the day, and opinionated talk programming at night.

One of the people involved with the new channel vows to be "taking on political correctness" with the launch of Sun News.

Will it even be owned by news corp.

No -- TVA, the French language network that also owns anglophone station CKXT in Toronto, will own Sun TV News.

That being said, it was mentioned that Sun TV on CKXT will be discontinued in favor of Sun News -- though I don't know if CKXT is being closed down wholesale, or if it'll be used to broadcast Sun TV News locally.

And even if Murdoch does want in on the station, he can't own more than 30% of it, due to ownership laws.

OK, I guess not - that owner would be Quebecor.

And, as Fox News is already available on cable in Canada, I second the call for this being the misleading topic title of the year!!

JULY? Jan.1 2011 is the start date, and they still need permission from the CRTC.

"The goal is to launch Sun TV News on Jan. 1, 2011, pending licence approval."

They don't have permission to go all news, YET they handed quite a bit of programming over to CHCH television already! (another company, targeting Hamilton Ontario, but viewable in Toronto, Canada on cable, etc)

And shouldn't this topic be moved to "Canada TV"?

Both Yes and No.
Yes, because it's about a Canadian tv station.
No, because Americans may wish to discuss and compare differences between Fox news channel, and something that Canadians will soon believe to be "Fox North"...

Ah, who better to write this than YezIKno. ;)

And I did contemplate posting this in the Canada TV board, but as stated above, it is the Fox News factor that led me to post this here.

Maybe they'll begin first by only broadcasting on CKXT in Toronto, Hamilton, London and Ottawa before going national.

They're off to a good start. They've already hired their first hot blonde!

Actually, when I first came across this thread, my first thought was wondering if they'd have a different "sunshine girl" (or whatever the heck they call her) anchoring/reporting every day! ;D

Wasn't that Naked News Channel a Canadian outfit?
