Fox News Gives Sarah Palin Her Own Show

As part of her deal with Fox News Channel, former Governor Sarah Palin has been appearing on the network's shows as a guest, providing commentary.

She will now also get the chance to be the interviewer, as her own series, "Real American Stories," premieres this Thursday at 10 PM. Among her guests for the first show: country singer Toby Keith and rapper/actor LL Cool J.

Full story from Mediaite, which alerts that it's "not an April Fool's joke":

The show will likely air weekly on Thursday nights with repeats throughout the weekend, similar to how Fox Business Network airs John Stossel's show.

They will no doubt pair her up with Mike Huckabee for an All-Governors Saturday Night lineup.

(hey, if Minnesota and California can bring show business to the Governor's office, Fox News
should be able to bring the Governors to show business)

I thought "Real American Stories," was an Oiliver North show. Or was it "War Stories" I stopped watching Fox News for 5 years now.

I believe they still run "War Stories" every other Sunday, I'm not sure...

Meanwhile, I mentioned above that one of the "guests" on Palin's new show would be LL Cool J. I place that word in quotes because, as it turns out, he didn't even sit down to do an interview with Palin! As Mr. Smith explains via Twitter:

"Fox lifted an old interview I gave in 2008 to someone else and are misrepresenting to the public in order to promote Sarah Palin's show. WOW."

The 68-second interview has now been edited from the broadcast.

When Fox News hired Palin as a contributor, I said she didn't have the smarts to carry her own show. Maybe I'll be proved wrong, but my guess is that the show will be heavily scripted ahead of time. She's not particularly articulate, and she lacks a lot of knowledge.

Huckabee is different - he's smart, articulate, and great at ad-libbing.

Reading a teleprompter isn't that difficult. Now, if she tries scribbling it all on her palms, she may end up looking like Jesse James Mistress #1.

Last I saw it on the schedule it was buried at 3am on sunday mornings, but they may give it a prime time airing from time to time

I agree with this assessment and appreciate the non-partisan way in which you expressed it. There are times when listening to Palin makes me uncomfortable because she seems half a second away from freezing up. It's the deer in the headlights look.

She has proven to do well with a teleprompter though and does have some TV experience - lest we forget her sportscasts on the evening news in Anchorage back in the 80's. If it's properly scripted, she may well be able to pull it off. Time will tell.

But, she's no Huckabee when it comes to looking comfortable on camera. He's pretty good at it.

Plus....let's not forget....Mike Huckabee's also had experience in radio, both in his youth as a disc jockey, and as a short-form commentator (Paul Harvey style) after the 2008 Presidential election.

I didn't know Huckabee had actual experience in the media pre-politics. All I knew was that he was a very amusing and glib guy. I was always impressed with his TV appearances in the lead up to the 08 Republican nomination. He even charmed interviewers with diametrically opposed viewpoints - like Jon Stewart.

LL Cool J and Mr Keith apparently have some issues with Fox using old interviews of them on Palin's new show: http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2...h-also-baffled-by-interview-on-palin-show/?hp

Okay... I can understand LL Cool J making a fuss about not wanting to do with Palin's show... but when a big-time conservative country artist like Toby Keith speaks up, that is surprising!

From the article: Asked if Mr. Keith was ever interviewed by Ms. Palin, Ms. Schock said, “Absolutely not.”

Was Fox in a tight spot that nobody agreed to do an interview with Palin, that they had to go through their archives and find old interviews that fit in with the show's M.O., all the while passing them off as "guests" in the guise of being interviewed by her?

For the first time in a very, very, very long time, I am looking forward to see what Olbermann has to say.

I stand corrected: he's reportedly a registered Democrat. I guess recalling him taking offense to the Dixie Chicks' knocking on President Bush, and associating most country music with the GOP, can leave me prone to making such mistakes...

He actually took offense to their (well, Natalie's, anyway) criticism of his post 9-11 song, "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue," almost a year before her criticism of President Bush.

I would agree that Mike Huckabee is so good on television it would actually be a mistake for him
to go back into politics.

I agree with that Freddy! And, I like him a lot better on TV than in politics too! :D

He's very good on the radio. No one can truly replace Paul Harvey, but his style is pretty much the same.

Now if only he'd do "The Rest of the Story". I just want to hear the stories.

I'm a moderate liberal but I believe there's a Santa Claus or Easter Bunny out there somewhere paying for all the causes I believe in. But every weekday morning Mr. Huckabee reminds me that's just not true. And he has such a pleasant style you want to support his views.
