Fox News Radio Anchors

Thoughts ??? Compared to ABC and CBS Network anchors ????

A hell of alot better than Fox's radio anchors used to be when the radio network feeds first started.

Still alot of work can be done, and probably will be done.

Both my stations are Fox News affiliates, and we only take a news update at the top of every hour. You hit the nail on the head when you say it too closely follows the TV sister. For example, during the hour Shepherd Smith's show airs, you hear "You're tuned in to the Fox Report with Shepherd Smith" on the radio, just like you'd hear if you were watching the TV channel. It seems to me that it actually IS nothing more than the audio feed of the cable channel. His rundown of the news is what the entire news segment consists of. It's just an interesting way of doing things, I suppose.

our station carries fox news radio on the overnights. sounds fine.

Fox News Radio's overnight anchor is Todd Starnes, a radio veteran previously heard...doing my old shift at news/talk KFBK in Sacramento. I believe he basically had the same position I had...full-time reporter, as well as anchor of the "KFBK Saturday Morning News".

Good guy, and talented newsman!

Mike

The closest Fox News Affiliates to me are WFAS 1230 in White Plains and WELI 960 New Haven. I know there are some Fox News Radio stations that play a special music package with cues and bumpers that have that patented Fox News sound-like KFBK in Sacramento, WHYN Springfield. In fact, on KFBK's site, you can download some of the sounders (Top Hour, traffic, weather), even use one as a ringtone for a cell phone. I wonder what company puts out the package--Reelword, TM Century or does Premiere, which syndicates Fox News Radio, do it? Just wondering.

I would tend to agree that FNR does lean a bit much on Fox News Channel for audio of some cuts, but they also have their reporters. Then again say WCBS 880 uses audio from CBS 2 reporters.

I also think FNR has got a slick look to it--more so than the dull CNN radio, which is on most of the stations here in CT. In fact 'ELI is the ONLY CT radio station to air Fox News Radio that I know of. WICC 600 Bridgeport is AP Radio News as are Putnam's 1350 WINY and WATR 1320 Waterbury. WTIC by their ownership by CBS radio is CBS Radio. ABC is on 1400 WILI in Willimantic.

One more thing, does Fox News Radio offer affiliates access to audio cuts like say AP, CBS, CNN and ABC?

I agree that FNR is pretty slick but I think it is hampered by its over-reliance on audio cuts from TV Reporters. I don't listen to FNR very often, but after this topic came up I've listened a few times the last few days, and I seem to remember that when FNR debuted this format, they had quite a few radio reporter... but I didn't hear many recently.

Also - I think the FNR anchors are pretty good, but don't really have "memorable" voices. Lisa Brady was about the best ... is she still there?

Also, I heard Shep's 5PM ET cast. I really liked it. It was done in his signature style and sound really great. Today he did a story on the NCAA towards the end of the cast and ended with "but don't forget about the NIT. Ol' Miss is playing tonight... I'm Shepard Smith Fox News Radio." He really lets his personality that can make him so great to watch on TV come through on radio, even in the short newscast.

Just an FYI...Fox does supply reguar audio via a web site link I'm told. A LOT of their audio comes from their talk shows but they do have some audio provided by reporters and affils.

They also excerpt a lot of Q & A between anchors and reporters.

Fox writes everything in present tense because it is a BAD thing that is sweeping the industry. Shep has a tendency to skip verbs or make nouns into them, most TV producers these days tell their writers to write in teh prsent tense. Sometimes the thing actually happened a while ago but the writers and producers (who are beaten up by the managing editor or asst. ND) are told to somehwo advance someone who died yesterday into a present tense. If Anna Nicole smith died yesterday the falsified present tense would be: Anna Nicole smith dying yesterday. It is bad stuff originally started by consultants (who are not all bad) who wanted the lede or the tease to be in the present tense.
